Q Did What?

Not Purchasing Joan Rivers

Started 1335732765.107 in Q Did What? | Last reply 1342274998.31 by Reiss1980

I will not be purchasing any of Joan Rivers' products. I did not realize that she wears fur and supports fur in the fashion industry. I recently saw her on a cable program where she made a joke regarding something to the effect that fur is dead so take the animal for a walk. I found her comment to be very crude. I know that she is a comedian, but it's disturbing that she find it funny that many poor animals were put through extreme suffering all in the name of fashion. I know the loss of one customer might not make a difference, but I feel better being a "voice" for these poor innocent animals. I also realize many designers wear and use fur in their fashion lines, but her disregard for the animals really stood out to me.

I saw that program and saw her say that comment. But what really disturbed me was a comment she made about Jesus in that same episode that I don't wish to repeat. I have thought she was funny at times in the past, but that comment was very disgraceful. Even is she does not believe, she should resepct other religions. Since she does have a line at QVC she should take into consideration that many of her customers may be Christians and/or other faiths.

I would never wear real fur. (I do like fake fur coats though.) And I never watch Joan Rivers! She is the definition of crude, and I have no patience for her nonsense!

Joan Rivers is the crudest person I have ever come across. She thinks she is funny, NOT. I wouldn't buy anything of hers.

Enjoy Joan, crude... or not {#emotions_dlg.rolleyes}.

Can't, though, get down with the fur. Wish she didn't wear fur, wish no one wore real fur, but all I can really do is not wear it myself, encourage others not to wear it and to the extent I feel able, support those organizations that give a voice against it. I rarely buy anything from Joan anyway, but it has nothing to do with what she says when she's on TV...

I wish no one except people living in and near the Arctic wore fur. In most of the rest of the world, it's not necessary to wear furs to keep warm. I've never had a real fur coat, but have had faux furs and that's good enough for me.

You can boycott her and not buy her products; that's your right. But purchasing furs and wearing furs is not against the law. She has that right.

Yeah do whatever pleases you. :) It's your money and your bottom of line. I share the same feelings towards the K-rap family.

ITA. Joan Rivers is about the only celebrity I would spend my money on, even though I only have one bracelet of hers.

I like Joan. I have no problem with people wearing fur.

Joan Rivers has made her living being crude, long before she became a fashionista; it's her schtick. Heck, I remember seeing her on black & white TV!

Personally, I don't like her, but it's a free country and if someone else wants to buy her stuff, well, that's their business.

Really? Have you ever seen a video of an animal being skinned alive or clubbed to death for the sake of fashion? I can't even imagine being so vain that I literally know a living creature suffered so that I may look "fashionable".

I stopped purchasing her stuff years ago when she joked on her Bravo special about not wanting to pay Americans to make her stuff--and she was already in the process of shifting virtually everything to China. Then I saw her comments about Christians in her documentary, and that truly sealed the deal.

When you look at what she talks about, how she behaves towards others, she's really a classless idiot. I hate to enrich people like that.

Yeah, FINALLY!!!!! Run Trey, run!

I thought all of the best designers had replaced fur(skin of dead animals) with items that have the look of fur, like Dennis Basso. For a poor animal to be clubbed and skinned belongs back in the caveman days.We are in 2012.Its not necessary to kill animals for our wardrobe. Please consider this! I will not be buying Joan Rivers!!

The same with Dennis Basso, have you seen his web site of his high fashion salon? He deals with all "real" fur, not the faux fur he brings to QVC. Peta has protested against him for years and would stand out in front of his boutique, yet no one is vocal about him. I don't wear real fur either but if someone wants to that is their conscience but be fair about it.

well, any one that likes fur knowing the animals die with extreme pain, suffering while being skinned alive, in my book, has NO SOUL. What kind of human is this?????????????? Evil, just plain evil ...there is NO EXCUSE.

yes, "JusMekp"...... years ago, she co hosted for Johnny Carson while he was on vacation, and she tried to persuade his staff to quit his show so she could start her own show and told them she would hire them. When Carson got back and found out what she was trying to do, he FIRED HER AND BLACK LISTED HER..for a long time, no one wanted any part of Joan Rivers. She has never changed, ...it's all about Joan...no wonder her husband died, he probably got tired of her antics and stress. NO, Joan will never change and I will NEVER BUY HER PRODUCTS EVER. And then QVC gets desperate for celebrities and brings her on board...that is how desperate QVC got.

I also found the comment about Jesus offensive and I have to add the constant political jabes at Republicans are ridiculous. I gave up watching or paying any attention to Holly weird celebs and stopped watching most of the movies they are producing.

That jacket that has been done over and over in different fabrics and patterns got old pretty fast.

I do believe Joan Rivers is a republican. If she were jabbing the republicans, no doubt she was doing it for laughs, which she does about everything. She makes fun of herself, her religion, her family, and everything and every one in her life.

It's who she is. If you don't like her, don't watch her or buy her items. If you do like her, enjoy yourself. She makes ME laugh {#emotions_dlg.laugh}

Thanks for letting me know this about Rivers. People look so ugly in fur, really. Can't imagine pulling the skin off of a beautiful animal to put it on someone like Rivers or anyone else...ugh. I thought I read something about her getting a law in NYC that people couldn't tie their dogs out or something like that. Some kind of good animal story about her.

I like lots of things. That doesn't mean I have to have them. It also doesn't mean I have to choose to be oblivious to the non-montary costs associated with producing them. Fur is beautiful, it's also cruel. Faux fur is about as close to fur as I need to get.

Doesn't something similar happen to manufacture leather bags??
