Q Did What?

QVC taxes

How do they get away with adding S&H on item total and then applying tax on grand total?

LL Bean does not do S&H charges or tx because they do not have a store in CA.

I recently brought from Kirk Follies on line and they charged S&H, but no tax because of no store in CA.

Does anyone know who I can get in touch with, call or write about this procedure of QVC taxes after S&H?

"QVC is registered with your state to collect sales or use tax, as appropriate, on taxable items shipped to your state. Most states require that we tax shipping and handling as well. The passage of the Internet Tax Freedom Act and similar state statutes has no effect on QVC's current obligation to collect such taxes. Please note that sales and use tax collected is remitted by QVC to your state taxation authority as required by law. These monies are not retained by QVC."

For internet purchases where there is no tax charged, in NY we are required to pay those taxes when we file our returns.

My State requires tax on shipping and handling.

You can tell who the strong women are, they are the ones building each other up, instead of tearing each other down!

QVC has charged state sales tax ever since the 50/50 tour in 1990s---this is when QVC established a presence in all 50 states--including yours. QVC collects state taxes as if they have a store in your state and forwards to the state's Treasurer.

We can all moan and groan, you can call whomever you think will listen to your plight---but that's kind of just how it is!

Everyone is right.

They're following the law, it's that simple.

I guess you could write to your State Legislators; they make the laws.
