Steel cut raw oats OK for birds?

Started 1338900195 in Pet Lovers | Last reply 1338926333.487 by arrianna

I have a box of steel cut oats that are not going to get used. I find I'm not taking the time to boil these for a half hour for a one person breakfast. Is it OK to throw these out for the birds or will they cause problems?

They are fine for birds. I go to a natural feed store that makes their own and those oats are in it.

I don't know for sure. I googled that and some say it's OK, some say not to feed birds the steel cut oats.

I cook for one (me!) and I have 4 packages of them stored in the fridge. I love goetta and I make a huge batch of it every couple months.

I put them in the birdie bread (cornmeal, baby food vegetables, egg etc) I bake for my Parakeets and Parrotlets. Also, you can buy quick cook steel cut oats now. I find them at Super Walmart. They cook in under 10 minutes.

I wouldn't feed those to the birds. I am a bird lover, and I would be terrified of giving them those steel cut oats. I have a few favorite birds, cardinals , blue jays, and I think it is a blue bird, it looks like a bright blue robin only smaller. Even crows are interesting to me. I have been overjoyed at the sight of tropical birds,(when I travel) they are so colorful and they don't even know it, lol.We don't have any orioles here, I would love to see one.
