Emeril, Martha, sued!

Started 1347581081.82 in Kitchen & Food Talk | Last reply 1348331367.937 by bikerbabe

I saw this on the Yahoo page. Apparently, Emeril was selling kitchen knives on the other channel. They were marked a German brand and he said repeatedly that they were German knives. Turns out, they were knock-offs from China. Emeril and Martha,(owns the brand), and the other shopping channel are being sued big time. I just saw that he is scheduled for a TSV on Sat. I wonder if he will be cancelled?

Are you talking about a TSV on the Q or the other channel?

Both of them were QVC vendors at one time but

now they give their attention and $$$$$ to HSN...

I don't remember Emeril being on QVC.

Do you remember a few years ago before Martha did

her stint in the Pokey that she "tried" to sell a Christmas

tree about 3' tall, that was covered in white feathers for

a hefty price over $200.00...

The remarks over the tree ruffled a few feathers and that

did not fly with Management and a few feathers flew... and

some BB members almost lost their posting privileges..

Thanks for posting lacey1. I for one, own the knives (set of three) and also gave a set as a gift. I just checked and they were made in S---something Germany. It was their TS last year before Christmas. The knives came in a wooden carved cutting board with a slide out tray that you stored them inside. The cutting board is a great quality, but the knives are marginal at best. I sharpen them each time I use them and they are not keeping their edge very well. I wonder if the HSN customers will be notified.

I missed that one. Sounds like it would have been fun to follow that thread.

Hi jpie,

I just saw that set online. Loved the look of it and can't beat the storage drawer. Some reviewers stated that their knives broke in half during use. Be careful! Hopefully they will recall them before someone gets hurt.

Not sure if these are the same ones that he was selling not long ago but the blades were reported to be German and the handles made in China.

Even tho they appear to be properly stamped with the country of origin, doesn't mean they're not fakes. Takes a trained expert. Sounds like someone caught it.

I have to look at the set on line... It sounds just like

some knives that QVC sold and they also called them

German Steel...

I did not open the package when I received it and when

I did, I found that one of the large knives was broken at

the tip ..(about 1 inch broke off) and one of the steak

knives had a broken handle... These knives were made

for Cook's Essentials

Emeril used to be on ShopNBC, before making the move to HSN.

If I were super wealthy, I'd retire just about now and get out of business in general. Even people like Martha and Emeril really don't know where their knives are being made. You can't trust anyone in the business world. Unless they actually go to Germany and pick up the knives, and sit on the airplane with the knives in the cargo area of the plane, it just isn't worth it to be in business now-a-days. JMO

I know people who know Martha & she is a crook & mean to the core. I am sure this is well-deserved.

All I know about Emeril is that I like his horseradish mustard. lol...

Solingen, Germany is probably the name of the town that was stamped on the blade or handle. Many grades of German steel cutlery is made there.

I only have and use 'Hinkles' German cutlery purchased from stores that I know. When it comes to paying $150.00-250.00 for a chef's knife or $75.00 for a paring knive, I want to know exactly what I'm getting and what they are selling.

I always do research before I purchase anything over $5.00.

That's just it ! The Soligen Company in Germany is sueing Martha, Emeril AND HSN for seeling the knives as Solingen when they are actually knock-offs made in China, and the Germans are livid because their knives have a sterling reputation and they are going for the throat on Martha, Emeril and HSN and aren't stopping until they cut the jugular vein!

And what's up with the three of them? They should all know better, they are pro's !!!

Then your research would have told you that the spelling is Henckels

Since you're being so picky, a sentence should end with a period. Wink

Emeril was on QVC years ago on New Year's Day with a copper bottomed stainless cookware set. It went over like a lead balloon and that was the end of that. Too many people like me remember polishing that copper bottomed Revereware as a child. I wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole, but I have a neighbor that actually orders old used pieces of Revere from Ebay.

I know a little bit about German Steel and Solingen....

and if these accusations are true... I hope that they

are sued..

The knife from QVC that arrived broken is not in my

home.. I believe my husband took it to work with him

to have the Metallurgist look it over...

I saw a business news piece that featured HSN. They showed Nate, Colin, etc who were shown a room of sample merchandise. They picked out what they wanted to stick their name on. End of involvement. They 'design' nothing. Not one thing.

Usually what happens is that a company gets a number of complaints/inquiries about their product performance or authenticity. Then the investigation begins. The 30 day return policy has long passed but these customers may be issued refunds based on fraud.

I agree with some of the other posts, here, that these celebrity salespeople really do not have much of a hand in their products. Maybe they sign a contract and have to deliver a certain amount of items, so they aren't too choosy.

I have always enjoyed Emeril. I know after his 'Live' show was cancelled, and Katrina/Recession wiped out some of his restaurants-he had to team up with the 'White Devil',(Martha). I think he sold his soul. This law suit may be the end of him.

I am looking at the knives now. On the front of the knife it has Emeril TM (signature) along with Solinger Germany 4116, on the back it has China and 3.5" paring, 5" santoku, and 8" chef. They all three appear to be forged SS, with colored plastic handles and two metal SS studs in the handle.

Thanks thatsmy VP. I have them as my back-up set and use them only once or twice a week. Until they figure this out, I don't feel safe using them at all, but do love the cutting board.

I can remember Emeril selling Wustoph knives on HSN, and yes before HSN, he was on the Q.
