Skinny Girl Cocktails, Beverages, etc. - Anyone try these?

Started 1338725187.63 in Kitchen & Food Talk | Last reply 1338911494.593 by LABoheme

I've been seeing Skinny Girl commercials on t.v. This is Bethany Frankel's product line, I believe, for lower calorie cocktails, etc.

Has anyone tried any of them? Just wondered if they taste good, if the calorie count is much better and price point of what you have tried.

Thanks!

I know they have them at Jewel and Sam's Club for $ 12.99 a bottle. A little expensive. {#emotions_dlg.blush} Haven't tried them yet.

I like the skinny girl margarita, and I put lots of lime in it and lots of ice and sometimes a bit of fresca. I also like her orange vodka. I tried a bit of that the other night.

I don't think her calorie count is much different from any other "light" margarita. She just uses less alcohol in her vodka, too, so it's lower in calories.

The alcohol content in her drinks is very low--especially the cosmo, sangria and pina colada. I haven't tried those yet. I looked at her bottles.

She has a new peach margarita I saw, but I didn't buy it.

Her bottles are cute.Wink

I tried the Margarita and thought it tasted like Theraflu. I didn't like it at all.

I also bought the Skinny Girl Margharita and it was hideously bad...

I've tried the margarita. While its not a "true" margarita-which I love-I would buy it again. For a night I don't want to splurge calorie-wise on the real thing, I think they are fine.

i have tried most of them and give them all a thumbs down.....they all had a bad aftertaste. i would not buy them again unless someone asked me specifically for them. it is fairly easy to make a lower calorie version of many drinks and make them fresh. the company is not hers anymore either...... if you really HAVE to have a premade lo-cal margarita the jose cuervo version is MUCH better.

If anyone drinks that much alcohol that they have to switch to a low calorie version, they have much bigger problems.

I just saw the commercial for the 1st time. I don't drink so I don't know anything about how good it is or not.

i wonder if sales have slowed down any?..... they never did commercials before, even when the product first launched.

No commercials before because she, on her own, couldn't afford it. I think now that a large company owns Skinny Girl you will see them advertise the product - as they should. However, the drink is the same as it was before they owned it... pretty bad, imho. I do give Bethenny a lot of credit. She is definitely self made and is now a millionaire 100 times over. Good for her but I do not like her products.

I watch my weight carefully so I am always trying the low calorie or light versions of lots of different foods from salad dressings, muffins and yes alcohol. I feel every little bit helps and I try to eat and drink healthy and not deprive myself.

Mostly though I try very hard not to judge.{#emotions_dlg.blush}

I like your post, because I feel the same way.

It's not a good thing to sit in judgement of others. It even irks me more when the person judging has no idea about the subject he's judging.

My husband is that way about weight. He has never had to lose a pound, so as I tell him, "what does he know?"

I don't drink much at all, but I am the same way. If I can enjoy something for less calories, then I try and do it. And how true --- every little bit does help!

Thanks, everyone!

This isn't true. If you go out even on a weekend and have a drink or 2, there are an enormous amount of calories and/or sugar in a lot of the alcoholic drinks. There is nothing wrong with trying to find a healthier alternative.

To add, I tried her version and thought it was decent but I like the Jose Cuervo much better. However, I prefer to just make my own if I'm so inclined. It's really quite simple.

The only time these premade drinks come in handy is if I want to take them on the boat.

Tried the margararita and agree...it was bad!

My favorite low-cal margarita is: can of sprite zero, 1/2 tub/packet of crystal light lemonade, tequila and ice. We make this one now instead of "real" margaritas and they taste so much better!!! Above makes 2-3 drinks.

I suppose it depends on what you think a margarita should taste like. A "real" margarita is lime juice, tequila and an orange-based liqueur like triple sec or Cointreau. I have had the Skinny Girl version and it is pretty good for a low calorie version and I'm very picky about my cocktails. I don't notice any aftertaste. She uses tequila and lime (probably lime flavoring) and agave nectar for sweetness...and I think, a splash of triple sec. I you are used to the sugary cocktail mixes, then you may not like Skinny Girl.
