When making sugar cookies, at what point do you put on sprinkles?

I love this board because I can usually get an immediate answer to my question! So, I'm making cookies right now, I'm not really a baker, when do I add sprinkles to the tops?

Before you put them in the oven.

Ahhh, that explains why they wouldn't stick when I took them out. {#emotions_dlg.rolleyes} Thank you very much, SandyMG, for your quick reply!

Colored sugar sprinkles go on before baking. Other sprinkles (like silver balls) go on after frosting.

We never used to frost our sugar cookies so put all the types of sprinkles on before baking, ever the silver dragees. We also paint the cookies with an egg white wash (egg white beat with milk or water) or just milk, before baking (and before the sprinkles) to give them a glossy surface.

And the less you handle the dough, the more tender the cookie :)
