Name 3 things you make with Vita MIx

Started 1314571227.337 in Kitchen & Food Talk | Last reply 1314656527.047 by shoekitty

I was wondering if those of you who have a Vita Mix could list a few things you make with it. Outside of smoothies and such, I was trying to think of things to do with it. My food processor died, and I do not have a blender. Can you make ice cream?

You ladies are so creative, I was hoping to get some basic ideas plus the unusual and unexpected as well!!

Thanks!!

I have used it to finely chop onions (so fast!)

lots of smoothies far superior to any blender I have ever had - I can throw in whole carrots, ginger, grapes, etc, and have no trace of chunks whatsoever

ice cream or sorbet-type desserts

If it's in your budget, and you like being able to get stuff REALLY SMOOTH, it's so worth it. I also like that there aren't a bunch of parts to store, and it's very easy to clean.

Thanks karmakat. When you chop the onions they don't get all mooshie do they? I had this weird experience with my food processor. When I diced onions in it, it would get this weird, bitter taste. I make many things with a mirepoix (celery, onion, carrot). This would be easy.

Has anyone tried making meringue ?

Actually I used to make a lowcarb mousse in my V., but I don't do lowcarb anymore. It had cottage cheese, water and instant fat free/sugar free chocolate pudding. It sounds horrible, but was delicious!

I can't do dairy anymore either! But I make the pie for company and the pudding for DH. The ice cream is made with almond milk, so I can eat that and I eat it a lot!

This is my recipe for diet ice cream.

8 oz. of milk (I use unsweetened almond for least calories)

Pour in a little vanilla

1/2 package of fat free/sugar free instant pudding

6 oz. frozen fruit chunks (bananas are my favorite)

1 cup ice

Blend until smooth.

Chocolate, white chocolate and butterscotch are my favorite pudding flavors.

For extra protein, add some PB2 which is powdered peanut butter with the fat taken out.

This is fabulous!

Oh, this recipe sounds soooo good!! I use the one in the recipe book. I substitute one cup of frozen fruit for one of the cups of ice. The problem is that I use half & half, which is fattening so I MUST stop, lol.

By the way, if you chop onions in the Vitamix or any processor or blender, use less than the recipe calls for. For some reason the electrical appliance makes the onions stronger. I found that out when I made soup.

Answering the OP question: I use my Vitamix for ice cream, soup, peanut butter, and protein shakes using protein powder, fruit, and spinach or anoter green vegetable.

My recipe tastes ever bit as good as soft serve ice cream I swear. I love it. You get a huge serving! I am a quantity eater though. LOL

You won't miss the extra calories.

Mima - that sounds good. Thanks for sharing! I like choc & banana together.

I make a chocolate banana malted milk shake out of the Vitamix cookbook that is one of my favorite things. I use 2% milk and the Dreyer's no-sugar-added/half fat vanilla bean ice cream in it, so it's not as bad as it could be, sugar/fat wise. Plus, it makes enough for two large servings so I put the second half in a Lock & Lock in the freezer and eat it a day or two later like ice cream. It is lovely chocolate/banana/malt flavor.

Bippity boppity BOOYAH!

Wow what great ideas. Cole slaw really? Is it chopped coleslaw? I have many tomatoes now, not as many as I usually have..but sauce is good. The ice cream and shakes sound right up my alley.

Instant pudding in the VM sounds like a great idea. Mousse like.

CB, chocolate, banana is one of my favorite flavors.

Mess on the floor? Oh yeah, done that making pasta sauce. Put warm tomaotes in processer, the top flipped off and cracked. Hot tomato sauce everywhere, I was finding spots clear into Christmas.
