Coffee prices are going down again!

Thanks to a great harvest, there is an abundance of coffee now! Colombia and several other coffee markets have a very high yield now, so prices are going down by 6%.

They should actually go down much more than that, since they have been raised 3 times in the past year, and that totals a 31% increase in price! It is funny how they are always so quick to raise the prices when the harvest is smaller, but so slow in decreasing them when there is a great harvest! They should lower the price by at least 20%.

There seems to be some kind of price fixing, because all of the major coffee companies have announced the same 6% decrease in price at the same time.

WSJ had an article about it yesterday. Smuckers said they are dropping their price last week. And Kraft followed suit this week.

Still think coffee has gotten very expensive. But I love coffee. Not about to give it up.

So will Starbucks and 7-11 lower their prices?? Doubt it.

I can't live without my morning coffee, but I switched from K cups to regular brewed coffee since they raised the prices so much. I was really surprised to find out that a few big companies own most of the coffee brands! No wonder the prices seem fixed! They ARE!

When the other companies raised their prices again in May, by 11%, Starbucks raised theirs by 17%! Dunkin Donuts and Folgers are among those going down, but all of them will have to, since competition is the name of the game. Smile

I follow the gold & silver markets. And sometimes other commodities, like corn, wheat, coffee, sugar etc. I know just enough to be dangerous.

Anyway, most food harvests are better then expected. So IF the companies pass on the savings, we should see a slight price drop on food by the Fall. Then again, there is no guarantee they won't just leave prices where they are. As long as we are willing to pay the price, more profit for them.

Despite what the Fed reports on inflation, my grocery costs have gone up alot this year.

6% is something. I am sure my husband will appreciate that. Thanks Jupiter.

Here in mid-MO Folgers coffee (in the can that used to be 3 lbs) used to be $4.99. Now it's $9.99. It's one item I stock up on when the price goess down.
