Aldi's Shoppers...Quick Cook Steel Cut Oats @ Aldi

Started 1287721420.56 in Kitchen & Food Talk | Last reply 1288104803.877 by Tabbycat

I love this store more and more! I have wanted to try Steel Cut Oats for a long time, but they are very pricy at my local grocery....something like $7 or $8. I think this is a fairly new item for our local Aldi.

I had picked up a box at Aldi and was trying to decide,, when a lady standing by me said "those are good". That's all I needed to hear ...... they really are good..... and for $1.89! Time to start stocking up on holiday baking needs....at Aldi's. Tabby

I always hated oatmeal but wished I liked it because it is so healthy.

I bought this Aldi's steel cut and I am a convert.

I cook it slowly on the stove with milk instead of water.

Then I stir in a few raisins and a sprinkle of cinnamon.

I put it in the bowl and drizzle on a little agave and it is delish!

I can see a lot of this in my future with the cold winters here in Western NY!

I wish Aldis would come to the West Coast:(

I saw a news report on tv about them, looks like my kind of grocery shopping

Love to save on food .

Tabbycat -- thanks for letting us know about the steel cut oats at Aldi's. I'm going tomorrow and hope they have them at my local store. I always wanted to try them - use Quaker Quick Oats now.

Lynneuk -- I'm from Western New York and I know what you mean about the cold Winters!!

I've never seen them around here. I like oatmeal tho, I'm planning on making my own with my Vitamix, I know I can find grains.

We have about 5" of snow on the ground this morning. Oatmeal sounds really good.

Cheese with that whine?

If you like the steel cut oats from Aldi's better stock up. One of the girls told me certain areas in the store are where they put the specials from their weekly ad & when they are all sold they won't get them again until they are in another one of their sale ads. The steel cut oats are in one of the areas they stock specials from their ad.

I love shopping at Aldi. I have seen these at mine but didn't get them. I'll re-think that when I'm there tomorrow. They will be nice to have on hand this winter. They are a special item so if you want to stock up do so. I have learned to stock up on their special items that they only carry a few times a year.

I must have an 'off' Aldis....no steel cut oats to be found and they said they've never carried them?!? Bummed...I love them and a bargain would have been great.

Lynneuk-You are right about WNY winters. We are closer to Lake Ontario so we don't get quite as much snow as Buffalo. I love those steel cut oats. The first year, I bought them on the King Arthur site then I found them at Aldi's last year. They are just as good as the expensive ones. I usually make them in the Pampered Chef batter bowl in the micro then keep what we don't eat in lock and lock and they are just as good the next day. Saves the long cooking! lm

I'll stick to the bulk department at my local grocery store. They charge $1.49 lb for steel cut oats.

I appreciate that heads up. I wondered if this might be the case because they weren't in the usual cereal section... and I've shopped Aldi's off and on for nearly 10 years and never have seen them. I'll be going passed there today and I will stop and get some extra boxes if there any left. Thank you Smile

Does anyone know what makes steel cut oats so much more expensive than regular oats? Just wondering.....
