Sams and WalMart meat...are they from the same place?

Started 1286817716.483 in Kitchen & Food Talk | Last reply 1287599379.82 by missyw1

I have had some great steaks from Sam's - I mean super tasting Ribeyes. While running to Walmart with DH the other day, I took a peak and their meat section, found a few ribeyes that looked pretty darn good, bought them, and put em on the charcoal grill - they were terrible. I will never buy meat there again. Dh said we should get our 17.00 back, has anyone ever done that? They did have a satisfaction guarantee sticker on them too! So, I wonder, is the meat from Sams and Walmart the same vendor? It must not be, Walmart seems to be lesser quality. Is it?

I'm thinking it must come from a different place because Wal-mart meat is horrible. I won't buy it. Take your receipt along with the barcode from the package of meat and they will refund your money.

It's the same company, so I always figured they were. Walmart has been busted in the past for putting coloring on older meat and changing the expire dates. I'd like to think that they no longer do that, but I'll be darned if I would trust them. I won't buy meat or product there.

I no longer belong to Sam's but, when I did, it looked like they were selling the sam basic merchandise so I avoided buying meat there too.

I'd try to get your money back. $17 is $17. I imagine all you would need to do is bring the packages in.

At our local Sam's, butchers are visable cutting the meat and packing it. I find their various meats to be delicious and well worth the price. Walmart meat is awful and I never buy it. Our Costco has a great meat selection too, with butchers on site. K

Sam's meat is so much better than WM. I don't think they get it from the same place, but I don't know for sure.

I like Walmart for a lot of things, but definitely not for their meat! I bought steaks there just once. They had an odd flavor. I haven't bought meat there since. Someone told me that I shouldn't buy their meat because it's trucked in and not cut on the premises so it's not as fresh. I have friends who buy most of their meat at Walmart and have been very satisfied with it, so maybe it depends on what you buy. I'll stick with my local grocery store where I can see the butcher cutting and packaging the meat. I don't shop at Sam's Club, but I have bought meat at BJ's Wholesale Club, and their meat is very good.

Are they different grades of meat?

I buy my meats at Sams not Walmart. Sams meats are much better.

I buy from my local Sam's Club and the quality of their meat is excellent. Particulary love the lamp chops because of the price/quality. It is one of their most popular items.

Our Walmart carries meat that is not choice or prime, can't think what that grade is called, select, maybe? Our smaller markets carry better quality cheaper.

I buy meat from Sam's. The only meat I buy at Wal-Mart is the vacuum sealed Tyson baby back ribs & the vacuum sealed flat brisket. I only buy the flat brisket because it has all the fat & bristle part cut off of it. Still has enough fat for flavor& to keep it from drying out.

I have never had any steaks or any meat at all from Sam's but walmart steaks are just terrible to me. Rubbery and tasteless. I just hate the texture. Also, the ground beef is stringy and almost impossible to chop up. It's like one long continuous string of meat. I won't buy it there anymore.{#emotions_dlg.thumbdown}

ive noticed that walmart and meijer both truck in their meat. especially their ground beef. meijer does have a butcher yet the ground beef is trucked in since all the prices r the same regardless on the labels. ive never eaten walmart meat its too expensive. meijer i did for a while till it started being trucked in. the taste changed. i also got new cookware HA by circulon. thought the change was the cookware. nope, i switched to kroger angus fed meat steaks ground beef, taste i liked returned. you do have to look at the wrapper. places with butchers still get meat from canada us and mexico. i steer clear of mexico. ive never had sams meat yet i have a membership. sams will have deliveries done by walmart trucks. sams meat does look tempting..ive been eyeing their rib roasts at xmas time for a few yrs now. just cant bring myself to spend it.

I will never buy meat from Walmart again! The texture and taste are 'off' to me. Just awful!

I'm not a member of Sam's anymore but when I was I would buy alot of their meat, it is much better than Walmart meat.

Something is just strange about Walmarts meat, my husband thinks it is injected with something that gives it an odd texture and taste.

Wal-Mart meat is, indeed, heavily doctored with solutions (usually that 15% sodium water content stuff). I haven't tried Sam's Club since I don't live near one but I will say that a local grocery or butcher shop is definitely the best.

Different steaks = different cows.

i recently moved to SC and went to Sam's and Costco, found Sam's dirty and certain sections smelled, dairy and meat cases

Costco was neat, clean and employees very helpful, oh and tried steaks from Walmart they were tough, dry, horrible.

Costco and Food Lion steaks very good

At least in recent times Sam's sold choice grade meat and Wal Mart sold select.

def get your money back - things wont change unless the probem is brought to managements attention via returns.

Also - perhaps sam's shipps thier "older" meat to walmart

If I am not satisfied with an item from the grocery store, I always take it back, they give the money back with no hassle at all, just refund the money. Certainly easier with the label from the item or the receipt.

Walmart steaks won't BBQ on the grill.
