Rose Gold, Yay or Nay? Fake looking or ?

Started 1348013052.47 in Jewelry Talk | Last reply 1348124313.55 by SUHSE39

The ring I really want is only showing in STERLING and ROSE GOLD in my size, the Yellow gold is what I want but it's sold out.

I'm afraid of Rose Gold since I've never tried it - is it faky looking gold?
Is Rose Gold Popular?

This is just a ring I plan to wear on vac. so I don't need to bring my real wedding ring.

I like it, I don't love it. In fact, it's only recently that I'll even consider it and still prefer yellow but don't think rose gold is fake looking.

Just so you know, if you've posted a picture, it isn't showing up.

I don't own any. I need to see it to see if it looks fake.

Rose gold is gorgeous. Why would it look fake? It is after all gold.

Rose gold is very popular now.

Rose gold is really not my favorite. I would rather not have a ring than have it in rose gold. I know some ladies love it, though.

If you are fair, rose gold looks wonderful on fair skin. I am fair and love it, can't get enough of it and am starting to dip my toe in the Bronzo Italia as it looks just like 14k rose gold. At least here you have the 30 day policy so you may as well try it.

In addition to my post above, I just looked at the reviews on the ring you are considering and there are 3 - 5 star reviews about the rose gold! As I mentioned above, I love rose gold and you may, too! Have fun on your trip no matter what you decide.

It has always been my favorite. I'm fair and have red in my skin so it looks best on me than the other colors.

This is sort of off topic, but I will indulge myself, LOL! I worked in a museum, and was doing to some Civil War research. During the Civil War, the Southern ladies especially, coveted rose colored gold. They like to wear wide matching bracelets, one on each wrist. They were like the height of fashion, with a matching brooch

This is very interesting! I would like to research this more....thanks....you peaked my interest about looking into some history on rose gold.

I think rose gold cycles with its popularity during the passing years. My grandfather had a RG wedding band, but grandmothers set was WG.

I prefer WG and YG. I do like RG when it is mixed with the other two, especially in 18k.

It is popular now but I really don't care for it at all. Maybe it's because I think it looks terrible against my olive complexion and is very unflattering against certain skin tones. I prefer YG or WG.

True rose gold, properly alloyed, is very pretty.

The plated stuff, not so much.

I just looked at the ring, but what you didn't write was, it's not really 14K. It's 14K CLAD.

Of the 4 methods of overlaying Sterling, Clad is the at the bottom, meaning there are only 2 methods that will wear similar to real 14K gold.

That means that it's the thinnest layer of gold and therefore will not wear well. Even with cleaning, you are going to wear away the thinnest layer of gold. If you could, I'd hold out for real 14K gold.

As for the rose, I've never been one to follow what is popular. I stay with the classics and I do my homework before I purchase anything over $5.00

Are you asking if the stones look fake or the rose gold plating over silver.

Rose Gold is a pretty alternative to yellow gold. I'm not a huge fan of either (I like white gold, platinum, or silver), but I don't think the rose gold is fake looking at all. It's just a different look. I would try it if I were you.

I don't care if it's popular or not, I love rose gold!!

I don't have a lot of pieces but I love the pieces I do own. Rose gold goes very well with my coloring. I also love the look of tri-color gold too.

How does the rose gold of eternagold compare with other brands? I have one pair of eternagold rose gold earrings and I would describe them as a champagne pink color. Does anyone have items from two different brands and compare their color side by side please?

I was enjoying wearing my rose gold. I don't have much of it (80% of my gold is yellow) , but I do own few nice pieces...

However , this recent Bronzo fad killed it for me I don't have any desire to wear the rose gold at this point... I will wait few months for bronzo trend to go away and then I will be wearing my real stuff again.

I tried EG rose gold hoops one time and I sent them back. They look almost yellow . Very little deference. If you read EG reviews - you will see MANY complaints about color issues. Yellow is too pale ( more like 10K) and rose does not look rose at all...

I don't care for it but that's a personal opinion. Rose Gold was popular years and years ago in thed 40's or 50's. My mother had a watch that was rose gold.

I do like the rose gold. And in my opinion, rose gold does look like real gold, because it is. But I have found that the rose color comes in slightly different shades. EG's rose gold isn't pink enough for me. I like the rich, pinky rose gold, and their's (Eternagold) is more of a peachy color that's too similar to to yellow.
