ETERNAGOLD

Started 1307032811.39 in Jewelry Talk | Last reply 1307157805.99 by Beebo

Once and for all, is Eternagold real 14kt gold or not? I'm thinking of purchasing and would like to know what you ladies know about this line. I've seen so many threads bashing and saying it's not gold. Did the Q ever address this?

Thanks! Smile

Yes Eterna Gold is REAL gold.. They use a special alloy that other gold makers do not in order to make their gold stronger... I have sold MANY Eterna pieces and never ONCE has anyone ever said it was not real gold...Eterna is the only gold I will buy and wear.

Every piece of solid 14k Eternagold is engraved '14k EG' which identifies it as the real deal. I think some are confused by the reference to 'special alloy'. The special alloy (which is in the product 'recipe') is what makes it stronger.

Some people had problem selling their Eternagold for a scrap because it did not pass the routuine gold test. I would not buy this brand, since too much controversy about it and also, I prefer the color of Italian 14k , it looks more rich to me.

I have sold some of mine several times in the past and never had a problem...it is definitely real gold.

I recently sold some gold pieces that I hadn't worn in forever, not anything that was really heavy or good that I wanted to hold on to. One of the rings was by Eterna Gold & one of the tests they do at the Gold Buying place uses a magnet. If the jewelry attracts to the magnet, they won't buy it. Not every place does the magnet test but i was perplexed; this was the only piece that did that. The only thing i could think of was that Eternagold's alloy is a magnetic mixture of some sort due to their personal cocktail of metals. I have Eternagold pieces that I really like as well as regular 14k/18k pieces. So it's just something to think about if you want to resell a piece.

At the gold prices today, I wouldn't take a chance. I don't care for their designs, too plain and traditional, and almost everything is yellow gold and I only wear white.

Um, okay. Most places, like pawn shops, do an acid or a scratch test.

Couple of things I like about EG -- it's still the go-to vendor for classic styles, like bangle bracelets and hoop earrings. I don't see a single drusy item offered. In addition, many EG items are made in the USA, and from what I see on the news, we need the work.

I totally agree. I also don't care for their styles and color of gold. I love YG but EG is too boring and pale for my taste.

Ebay is a great source of classy Italian gold . Good alloy, good rich color and quality . Better prices too.

fluffy, you really need to stop double- and triple-posting. Or you could just start your own blog somewhere.

You can also research it under Leach & Garner Gold. It has been sold under that name for years at brick and mortar stores. I think Bailey Banks & Biddle used to carry it as well.

Can you name some of the sellers you deal with? I never know who to trust over there.

I can't imagine QVC selling gold that is supposed to be of superior quality all of these years and it not being real gold. That would be fraud.

I buy from many different sellers. But I always Look at their feedbacks and the return policy .

This particular seller has great prices for a basic gold chains. I already bought 3 of them:

Ennui, I went to 4 different places. They all did the acid or scratch test. The last place I went to did that as well as the magnet test which i found interesting. The eternagold ring was the only thing that was magnetized. They rejected the ring saying there was no way for them to verify what all metals it was composed of. Interesting. So i kept it which is fine. I posted it here because there have been several threads about people wanting to sell their gold & it's just something I had never heard of or read about anywhere.

That part makes sense, because the Eternagold recipe is supposed to be patented. I hope you like it, since you couldn't sell it? I think Eternagold themselves will buy back their gold, maybe you could contact Aurafin in Florida.

The EG twisted hoops are in As Is -- J260359 for $72+. I've always liked them.

Ennui, I did like the ring fine but had another similar to it that I liked better & wasn't wearing the eternagold one so i thought i would sell it along w/ the other items i wasn't wearing. But it's fine to keep as well, it's still a pretty piece. I like Eternagold & i like non-Eternagold; i just like yellow gold jewelry period. I wonder if anyone else has had the magnetizing test done? Probably not thru the mail but in person. I was just a bit surprised as none of the other places i went to did anything like that.

I have purchased a number of pieces of EternaGold over the years and I guess what some people call boring designs, I call classic designs that don't go out of style. I have some pieces that I purchased 15 years ago that still look great to me.

Does anyone know if EG contains nickle?

It does not contain nickel. That is what they tout...that people who are allergic to nickel won't have a problem with EternaGold.
