How do I keep Palmetto bugs out of house?

Started 1270410892.907 in For the Home Talk | Last reply 1270835675.703 by Elaine

I have been in my house 1-1/2 years.  First Plametto bug came in last night. I was successful in my search & destroy mission.

Does any onw have any hints on keeping them out?

I had them in my apt, I woke up one morning to find one in the kitchen sink. They're so GROSS! but, I found bleach works, they roll right over and die.

There just isn't anything that creeps me out more than those darn bugs.  I call them "747s"...they are about that big.  I am lucky enough to have two relentless cats; Rudy and Bella who live to hunt and prey on those things.  They do a great job.  Those bugs seem to seek inside when it gets cooler here.  Regardless; those bugs give me the willys...UGH!

I hear we have 7 types of cockroaches here in AL but I have never seen them.  Have my home professionally sprayed quarterly.  Works for me.

I have laugh every time I see a coakroach referred to as a palmetto bug, LOL!!!

We use Cook's Pest Control, they exterminate from the outside, no spraying on the inside, and we have been lucky for the past 3 years!

I have 2 cats.  I NEVER see bugs in my house even though I live on the Gulf Coast and do NOT use pesticides.  I'm also a fanatic about cleanliness.  My advice: Get a kitty cat :-)  (They make great company, too.)

I have lived in the south for almost 25 years, and I dont mean to alarm you honey, but it's probably not your first (because they hide), and it won't be your last.

Palmetto bugs can squish so flat, that they can squeeze through the tightest moldings and under your built ins like sinks and cabinets.

I use a household bug spray every month...it's more cost effective than a extermintor.

Honey, if you saw 1 Palmetto bug you have hundreds, they are prolific breeders. They are in your walls. Hire a professional exterminator to come monthly. It's a never ending battle. (Lived in FL for 10 years)

"Palmetto bug" is way to nice a name for these insects!  I don't have them--knock wood!

My mom lived in Florida for 30 years and had professional spraying on the outside once a month.  You either have to live with them in the South or spray!
