I would like to paint my living room walls a plum color. Any thoughts?

I need to put some color on my walls. I currently have ivory walls, brown leather furniture, and black and white photographs on the walls.

I really want to paint the walls a plum/purple color. Please give me any thoughts you have. I can't really visualize the brown furniture with plum walls.

My home was built in the 1930"s so it has natural chestnut woodwork and hardwood floors.

Thanks for any suggestions!
