In this day and age, when anything goes, it is difficult to guess. However, I always thought "after 5" meant "dress-up".....but, not formal. For a man, it would mean suit/tie and woman, cocktail dress or nice dress.......or even a fancy pant outfit as some of those are pretty dressy.

Good luck..........if you know anyone else invited I'd be asking them too.

Somewhere between casual and formal. As walker said, a nice dress, sun-dress, pant-suit would work. A man can even do a dress shirt with suit jacket and no tie...I've even seen them go more casual than that such as a dress shirt and slacks.

Wear something that looks nice and that you're comfortable with, I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. Wink

I traveled alot with DH on business trips around the world and country and they would say in literature what to wear, for instance business casual, casual, formal, etc. After seeing other women and seeing other women's attire, it was evident that the dress was all over the board. Some of them were dressed properly and others were not dressed correctly. But, I found at first to be intimidated by all the dress requirements. But finally after several trips you know what to wear.

After five is...cocktail attire. (dressy elegant/chic) not formal

This is a MESSAGE Board...NOT a MESSY Board.

So what if you have a hunch-back, honey. We all see it, know it's there...so just throw a little glitter on it and go on out dancing! (old bayou wisdom)

Women have it harder here, since After Five means dressy but not floor length, pull out your nicest shoes, an evening clutch or cute purse, and your nicest earrings. Men usually get away with a dark suit. You can kick up the makeup ! Have tons of fun!!

It means cocktail attire..appropriate for a wedding... a short dress rather than long, made in a fancier fabric...spaghetti straps or strapless or something in that vein. It can be lace, satin, organza, or a beautiful cotton dress that looks dressy. High heels, no fancy flat sandals, a small handbag and great dressy jewelry. The guys just wear a suit...as it is a wedding , no sports coats and slacks.

Linea has a great sheath in black or pink for about $59 that would be the perfect dress for that type of wedding.
