Birkenstock sizing question

Started 1272854073.123 in Fashion Talk | Last reply 1273598333.457 by HiLo

Can anyone help me figure out what size I should order in Birkenstock? I wear a size 6, size down or up? I have found some similar styled sandals with the contoured footbed and a size 5 worked for me??? So I was wondering if these run large like the other sandals I tried ( I certainly can't wear a 5 in anyother shoe) So what should a usual size6 order? I really need a comfortable shoe for summer with arch support (foot problems) and some of the Birkis seemed pretty cute. I was hoping they would work for me. Any suggestions? Thanks

I would go by Birkenstock's shoe conversion chart.  I am an 8 1/2 M, and in Birkenstock I always order size 39 and never have a problem.  I don't have to size up or size down; the 39 is a perfect fit for me.  I only have a few Birkenstocks and they are very comfortable.  I use the double strap model in place of bedroom slippers.  The support feels so good after wearing flats all day.

Their charts have said if you take a narrow in Birks, then a US 6 would be a 7 in Birks.  If you wear a wide (regular) in Birks, then a 6.  Recently I have found I may need to go up to a 7, and I use the regular width.  Hope that's not too confusing.  You might want to google some Birkenstock sites for sizing info.  There are a half a dozen "lines", all Birkenstock, and they vary a bit size-wise.

You might want to get in touch with the Birkenstock vendor, Claudia.  I'm sure she would help you.

Sherrie, I also wear a 6M (sometimes 6.5) in regular shoes & I always wear a 36/5.5-6 US in Birks.  I have dozens of Birkenstocks, sandals to clogs, & a size 36 is perfect every time.

QVC is a great way to try them for the first time because of the generous return policy.

These shoes catch a lot of flack for their lack of style (ie. some for being just plain ugly) but I've never found anything that beats them for comfort.  And some of the styles are kinda cute {#emotions_dlg.thumbup1}.

Good luck in your choice!

...and that's my two cents.

There are some guidelines on how to fit on theBirkenstock website.  It seems a little different from the QVC size chart.  I wear size 9, and size 40 in Birkenstock.

You are probably a 36.  However, you should know that of the three Birkenstock footbeds carried at the Q, the original Birkenstock footbed runs the smallest.  Birkis and Papillios run a little larger.

Thanks everyone for your help. Desertdi does that mean you wear a 36? I guess that's what I'll order. I think tomorrows TSV will be Birkenstock.

I think they're pretty true to size.  I wear a 7 1/2 wide as a rule and in Birkenstocks a 38R or 38M always fits me perfectly.  Sadly, QVC doesn't sell any in the 'R' (they just sell 'N') so I have bought mine elsewhere.

Is there a Birkenstock store where you live?  You could always try on a pair.  They have always seemed to run consistent so a size that fits you in one should fit you in another.  I'm only talking the REAL Birkenstocks, however, not the Chinese-made ones like on hsn as they run different.

I wear a size 38(8) in the closed toe Birk's and a size 37(7) in the sandals.  My personal opinion is to size down for sandals although they will tell you to size up.  You can order a 6 and send back if incorrect or you can find a store that sells Birk's and try some on.  The malls where I live have Birk's in some stores.

I have always bought my Birkenstocks from QVC.  I wear a 9-1/2 M shoe and a QVC Birkenstock "39" always fits me!  However...I was just searching for a black patent Birkenstock and QVC was sold out of the style I wanted.  I found the same style at Zappos.com, but their sizing chart is diferent from QVC.  Their '39' was 8 - 8-1/2.  Guess my main question is, are all true Birkenstock sizes the same, whether you buy them at QVC or somewhere else?  The ones at Zappos are original Birkenstocks.  I'm so confused.  Their Customer Service was ZERO help, as usual.

WOW! I also wear a 9 1/2 M, and have ordered from QVC and Zappos (in the past). I was fitted for my first pair almost 20 years ago. I have always worn a 40. My foot just kept growing with each pregnancy - maybe that's it. I started before kids at 8 M!

Sizing Dilemma for me too-36/37

I am a 6-6 1/2.. - depending on the shoe, and have purchased several pairs of Birkis at size 37.. (based on QVC rule  -size up if you are a 1/2 size)  -- however -- recently tried on A40844 in 36 and 37 and felt the 36 was a better fit.. More form fitting, heal felt seated better. Now i'm confused and upset - have i been wearing the wrong Birk' size all along ? - I have 5 pair in size 37. They are clunky but comfortable. - i took QVCs word on it, and kept purchasing the 37's.. ---- but now, feeling the 36 on my feet.. i am more than upset about the whole sizing situation ---    Any feedback is appreciated --- Carole

I wear a 6 or 6.5 and have always purchse a 36.  The once I was mistakenly sent a 37.  They were much too big.

I do not know why my post is so weird.

Thanks Lulu for the feedback -- Sad that I've been wearing oversized birks. they are not inexpensive.

I usually wear and 8-1/2 but when I went UP to a 9, the shoes were much too large..  I own several pairs and going DOWN a size proved right for me.
