What do we wear under a maxi dress?

Started 1340721601.957 in Fashion Talk | Last reply 1341001569.817 by Abbyaj

I was just thinking how I like the TSV and had purchased the ones Stan H. brought us last season. I have only worn his around the house because I just feel a little uncomfortable thinking that in certain kinds of lighting you might be able to see through it. So....the question is, what do you wear under them?

I don't get the impression that this is see through at all.

Most of the maxi dresses that are made from lighter-weight fabric are lined. I don't wear slips - LOL. If it wasn't lined, I wouldn't buy it.

I guess, I would first check to see if it was see through or not...good point by the way and if not whatever underwear you normally would wear. However, I do notice with many dresses that are somewhat see through people still just wear whatever including my beloved niece who just this weekend had on a dress and you could see her thong.

I also worked with a young woman who wore no underwear and I suppose that would work too.

I don't necessarily mean that you can actually see the underwear, what I mean is seeing the silhouette of your body. Remember that famous first picture of Princess Diana when she was working as a teacher and holding that little boy? The press had a field day with that picture!

I saw a lady shopping yesterday in a black dress...........I don't think she realized you could see right through that dress in the sunlight. She would have been very embarrassed......

The TSV is not see through at all. With the flowers and the material it is a thicker cotton.

Must love dogs and cats

I wear a half-slip (to the knees) and shapewear. I don't care if it's a see-thru from the knees down. With this TSV I probably won't wear the slip.

That's a good point. I suppose you couldn't see through it as much if it's a print.

Then where does the 'easy, breezy' summer comfort come in? I might as well wear shorts and a tee. (Just asking)....

A slip

Or if you are comfortable without one, then nothing. I always wear a slip.

Would not wear a slip! I wouldn't buy it if it required a slip! Most of my maxis are prints and you can't see through them! I agree that with this print on the TSV I think it will be enough to not be see through! I didn't buy the TSV but enjoy if you did! I have 7 maxi's so far and love them!

If the fabric is not see through why would that be a problem?

A see through maxi dress would be like wearing a long filmy

nightgown anyway. You can buy a maxi dress that is

not filmy or see through at all sorts of places.

You can just wear your bra and one of thos long

half slips that you would wear with a long skirt.

I agree, benzgirl...If you want "easy, breezy" it's not time to show your "wears" to the world...You gotta wear your shorts and a tee or a maxi or a mini that isn't see-through.

I have plenty of skirts and maxis that aren't see-through, but the ones that you can see my undies, or bare-bottom (if I wanted to go that way), I wear a slip so I won't offend, embarrass or whatever woman, man or child. {#emotions_dlg.laugh}

This morning on Hoda and Kathie Lee they showed a Spanx product that works well with maxi dresses. The front was like a short skirt and the back was fitted like undies. Looked very nice.

I own 3 maxi dresses -2 are Denim & co and they are not see through so I just wear my regular underwear. The third one is a Susan Graver and it is fully lined so , again, just regular underwear.

I have 4 mumu type ones - very thin cotton with tropical prints that I just wear around the house and under them I usually just wear underpants - they have built in bras. Or sometimes I wear them to the pool over my swimsuit.

Shucks! I watched bits and pieces of that show...missed that part! I hope they bring this item to the Q at a great price. Sounds awesome!

I still have a full length half slip from the last time maxi dresses were popular. If I am using a maxi dress as a bathing suit cover-up, I do not care if you can see through it. (although most of my maxis are not thin material) If I am wearing the dress as a dress, I wear the slip.
