What would you wear to a beach wedding?

Started 1335483524.657 in Fashion Talk | Last reply 1335543309.787 by RedConvertibleGirl

The wedding is going to be on the beach - I mean right on the beach. Reception will be at the hotel on the beach. Do people go more casual - like maxi dress casual. Or regular wedding attire? No details yet - hoping the invitation sugggests something.

I would go very casual unless the invitation says otherwise, sounds like fun!

I've never been to a wedding on the beach but I have seen weddings on the beach and most people were very casually dressy. Women wore flats/sandals, men wore open shirts.

Hopefully the invitation will give a solid suggestion for attire. I'd start looking around for a great dress and sexy flats. The maxi is hitting big this season, you shouldn't have a problem finding something.

I tried being patient but it took too long.

I have a perfect maxi that I bought last year - I hope to wear it. Thanks.

OK. I am getting married by the Pacific ocean in August. We were going to be right in the sand but found a nice grassy area overlooking the ocean. We'll go down to the sand for pictures.

I am wearing a full length, one shoulder ivory satin gown. Fiance' is wear a nice suit. No bridesmaids or any of that. It will be close friends and family.

I have asked for NO jeans. The guys can wear suits or nice slacks and shirts, maybe "island pants". The women can wear sun dresses or capris and cute tops and sandals. I just request no one look like they came off the street in casual street wear or sloppy clothes. And no tramp wear (trust me, that needed to be said).

I can imagine several of the items from the Linea presentation today being quite appropriate. I think the cotton linen dress in either color, the white pants with the plaid jacket/shirt with a tank and any number of cute espadrilles or Clark sandals.

Lightweight poly or cotton sundresses or maxidresses, great weight linen pants with tanks worn under a shirt jacket.

2 years ago we were staying in a hotel right on the beach in St Augistine.Fl. It was so cold but they had a beach wedding and the couple wore regular wedding gear as did their attendants but the attendantys dresses were regular street length - everyone else had on a sort of dressier casual - like a maxi dress type or sundress casual. The men had on dress pants and shirts but no ties or jackets. Everyone including the bride & groom were barefoot. They had the reception right on the beach as well and had a huge bonfire! We got to sit on our room's balcony and watch the whole wedding. They had carribean style music mixed with some country music.

When faced with senseless drama, spiteful criticism or misguided opinions walking away is the best way to defend yourself. To respond with anger is an endorsement of their attitude. -Dodinsky

Thank you. We wanted something simple. Ha! Well, compared to a lot it will be.

I am glad to see this thread. I have been invited to a wedding on a farm in a barn. I have been wondering the same thing. I was thinking anything would go except jeans. I got the invitation and nothing was mentioned about attire. The bride will be in a full length gown and there will be a string of bridesmaids, flower girls and a ring bearer. I would definitely ask what to wear to a barn wedding. I mean, are you going to be sitting on haystacks, chairs.... Like the beach, shoes will be a concern. I'd love to hear about this after they're married.

Get the bronzer out for the legs because you will want to have bare legs. Sandals, and a long dress or short dress on the casual side but elegant. If it sleeveless, wear a shawl.

A regret that I wouldn't be attending. Beach parties, volley ball games and paper plates aren't my idea of nuptials. They make fun family gatherings so I understand a Bride and Groom choosing that option. For Guests it is uncomfortable and windy sitting on the beach.

No one is sitting on the beach at my wedding. They will be in chairs. Also, no volleyball games or any of that. It's not a family reunion - it's my wedding! We're having the buffet reception at our favorite restaurant with real plates and silverware. And, we'll be sitting at tables with tablecloths and flowers.

RCG: Is your wedding in Del Mar, we have a park (think its called powerhouse,{#emotions_dlg.confused1}) that overlooks the ocean. A lot of weddings and knowing Ca. it probably isnt inexpensive to rent it. Every time I see the chairs set up I think what a glorious setting. Congratulations!!{#emotions_dlg.wub}

I went to one last year, just like you described--ceremony on the beach, reception at a place on the water, but pretty much inside. Everyone dressed very nicely but not formal. As for me, and I think I dressed appropriately--I had on a Michael Kors maxi dress. It was a blue tank on the top--and the bottom was a black with blue and white floral print. I wore black wedge sandals, but went barefoot on the sand. We were told it would be casual, but it was not in print. My DH was so upset that he wasn't dressed better and thank God he did not wear shorts or very casual clothes! He had on a dress shirt, but every guy had on at least a tie! Be careful who you ask about dress! The person we asked said very casual, but she and her DH we very dressed up! They were the parents of the groom.

No. Off the coast here in Washington. It's where we went on our first date - almost 8 years ago.

Lauren Lauren was married on a farm. Google her wedding. I would be willing to bet no one called her Elly Mae.

My #3 son and his wife served in a wedding on a farm and though it was not as high end as Lauren Lauren's wedding, it was a Senator's daughter and it was pretty nice. Friends they met in graduate school.

We are also having our 3 dogs there. Three miniature American Eskimos. Thought about a doggie tux for the boy and tiaras for the 2 girls. LOL Probably won't but it would be make for some cute pictures.

My DS had a beautiful beach wedding almost two years ago and we asked all the guests to wear "summer casual" and everyone looked SO lovely! The men in the wedding party wore linen pants and pastel tropical shirts. The bride's attendants wore very simple cflowy street length dresses in ocean colors. The ceremony was on the sand and the reception was in a hall next door. Perfect. I am a lucky mother-in-law!

I didn't come here to argue.- Peg Bracken
