I think Richard Bricknell, director at the Bristol Physiotherapy Clinic in England, may have tied his tie too right!

They made me change my name! So, I dropped an 'e.' Formerly Kathleen.

Has this guy ever worn Spanx?

Really!? Would he have said the same about girdles back in the day? I am sure the corsets once used were pretty painful, maybe dangerous?

Ladies, this male will never hear things like, "those pants make your a@@ look big!". How about this one. "you need to loose weight. Then that top will look right". Here's the Mother of all comments a male will never hear, "Are you going to wear that?". When he's heard any of these comments, then, and only then, can he make a comment about something that many women feel makes them look better.

He said exactly that. There was a brief moment when women managed to escape the tortures of corsets and girdles and then Spanx appeared.

I'll call this article - nonsense. It amazes me what people will put into writing just to advance their agenda. Wonder what this guy intended? Why don't we just ignore him.

Let me know if you suddenly become interesting.

Yahoo news often make me feel they are desparate to just fill in the pages.

They are totally different, in my experience. I wore a bra/waist pincher/girdle combination which was supported by staves from the waistline to the beginning of the bra when I was trying to maintain an 18-inch waistline which I never did. I stayed around 22-24 when all my friends were 16-18.

It was a part of the debut to have a small dress with a small waist in a formal gown (after all, Scarlet (in our imagination) had a small waist).

There is no comparison. Spanx is movable and breathable and having had 4 major surgeries for abdominal maladies, I have no problem wearing Spanx, not even heartburn.

Total rubbish! Spanx and the other modern body shapers aren't like the heavy rubber girdles that my mother and grandmother wore. Why is some guy writing about something he knows absolutely nothing about? And making up stuff as he goes along. Weird, really weird. I'll tell you what is "bad" for me. Walking around with jiggly thighs and booty with a mind of it's own is my idea of bad. I wear Spanx or shapers similar to Spanx every single day and I usually wear my shapers from 6:00am when I get dressed to 10pm when I go to bed. They don't bind or constrict and are totally comfortable so once I have them on, I don't even think about them.

I personally hate Spanx. I prefer sit ups.

I prefer sit ups too. Those Spanx things don't do anything - a huge waste of money IMO.

I am not sure how situps makes your clothes look smooth, but I wear Spanx under my clothing so the bra lines and panty lines do not show. If I am doing sit-ups, I guess it does not matter, but sit-ups at most of the church and social events I attend, would just not be acceptable.

REAL girdles are open at the bottom. However tight, hot and firm they may have been, there was always wonderful ventilation.

The only way Spanx are bad for you is in the wallet...they usually cost more then other shapewear!

Formerly poster TY, I had to register a new nickname TY1.
