What can I pair with a lace skirt?

Started 1334714145.867 in Fashion Talk | Last reply 1334927182.89 by AGV

I recently rediscovered a black lace skirt in my closet that I've haven't worn for years and find now that it's right on trend! I had worn it with just a plain bouse but now am wondering if I can pair it w/ a layered ruffle top or maybe w/ an animal print. I can't decide if it's all too busy, especially the leopard print. Any opinions??

I'm not a fashionista, but I'd never combine a lace skirt with a ruffled top, too busy imho. A look I like is a lace skirt with a tshirt and a close fitting denim jacket.

For me, I would stick with a plain blouse. Let the skirt be the fashion point. Then maybe a pop of color with a cute handbag. Or some great shoes.

I love lace skirts and I have several different colors. Love the black lace skirt the best.

One top I seem to love to wear together is a simple basic Black top you can still buy on QVC. It has a classic look with pearls, and a modern look with several long gold chains or silver chains. Black top with the black lace skirt.

On a cool evening going out to a social, or dinner, I wear a smooth line black suit jacket.

George Simonton (Black) A70080 Red is nice also.

This has a romantic look, and a "Lady" look. Simple look but classic.

I have a black lace pencil skirt and a couple of casual ways I wear it are with a black turtleneck, black tights, black booties and a denim jacket in the winter and a turq or fuschia tee shirt and wedge sandals in the summer. Love my black lace skirt and I have had it for a long time.

This is exactly what I would have suggested. A black T shirt and a denim jacket or blazer. And a pair of fabulous shoes or boots.

I have a blk lace skirt w/ a nude lining, wear it with a blk top/shell and strappy goldish sandals.. in the past. Will have to pull it out and try wearing it again to one of my social dances.

I wouldn't wear a print, especially an animal print with a lace skirt. Thinking about it makes my eyes hurt. I have a knee length black lace skirt that I love. I wear it for dressy occasions. In the winter I wear it with a nude chiffon bow blouse, ultra sheer black hose and strappy high heel black sandas or gold metallic sandals. It's my "go to" outfit when I want to really look great. A couple of weeks ago, my girls and I went out and I wore that skirt with a white button down shirt, black tights and tall black boots and a denim jacket. My girls were crazy over that outfit, they loved it. It was the first time I wore in casual way.

I had a few lace skirts and always had a difficult time finding the right top. I think it needs to be something simple (and basic).

chrystaltree.....you must be a fashionista because your outfit sounds so cool and one I would love. {#emotions_dlg.thumbup}{#emotions_dlg.thumbup1} Maybe you should think about writing a column describing ways to put some outfits together!! I ook at fashion mags for inspiration sometimes but would love to put a great one together on the spur of the moment. I usually over-think it.

I wore mine for Easter with a pretty ruffled periwinkle silk tank and a darling color block light cardi in peri, green, and black.

A cute camisole and a jean jacket.

It really depends on the cut of the skirt. If it's s pencil and on the shorter side, I would wear a beige or soft pink boyfriend blazer and a white shear blouse with black collar underneath. I also have worn recently my black zip front lace skirt with a creamy lace top. Lace on lace is totally doable.

But if it's one of those longer, more boho style skirts, I would just pair something simple like a gray Tshirt on top, finish with some fun scarf.

Personally I wouldn't wear high boots with lace...It's nothing wrong but just not my thing. I mean tall boots with skirt isn't just my style. :)

I love this thread and the look of lace with a denim jacket and shooties/wedges idea. Does anyone have suggestions where to get a good black lace skirt? Or do I have to wait til the holidays roll around again to find one? (hope not). Thanks!

I'd wear a fine gauge black v neck sweater with it.

I recently purchased A93504 on clearance and was quite pleased with it. I wear it with a shell pink blouse and matching pumps. There are only a couple of sizes left. It would like nice styled with any of the ideas here. I love the denim jacket idea.

if it is dressy, i might top it with a charmeuse blouse.

That black camisole just presented on the Cristina Ehrlich (new hour designer) with black strappy shoes, a white jacket, denim or cotton (dressy or casual), some chandelier earrings and a sassy posture.

Hi COMF3

I bought one from bcbgMax azria that I really like, its a pencil about 2 months ago at Dillards, also bought a fuller, tiered one from Saks, but that was before Christmas. Check Bebe sometimes they have some nice lace ones, if they are long enough. Some of their skirts are quite short. Express did have some on clearance but that was last week. I wear mine alot with various t's and denim jacket. I especially love to wear the black one with a mustard colored cami, and a black or grey cotton cardi.

Talbots has some lace skirts.

Thanks Citychic and maddiecat! (I hear you about Bebe, City - great stuff, but skirts can sometimes be short and I'm only 5'2"!!)

I would've never thought of Talbots for this trend!

With a black lace skirt, keep the top simple. No ruffles, no animal print, no print of any kind. JMHO.

Wear it with some type of tee shirt.

Depending on the style of the skirt, you could go for a more casual look by pairing it with a simple tank top and a denim jacket. This is a cute look.
