Von Maur Dept Store

Any one with experience with Von Maur stores? My local mall is getting one in the next year, and I am curious. Never heard of this. (I was hoping for Nordstoms.)

It an upscale dept. store on par with Nordstrom's. There is one that I know of in Oak Brook, IL. You should be quite pleased with it.

We have one here in Omaha...upscale department store.

A couple of years ago we had a terrible incident where a young man went into the store and killed/injured several salespeople and customers. Very tragic. I thought Von Maur handle the situation with a lot of class.

Gooday is correct. There is one in our area, nice store. Its a little pricy but nice. In our store they have someone playing the piano while you shop, very nice!

Best part? Their department store credit card has no fee, no interest, you only have to pay 1/5 of the balance and they will gift wrap and ship for free! I love Von Maur! They rock at customer service!

I love Von Maur. It kind of reminds of me Nordstrom, but on a smaller scale. Free shipping, great customer service. It reminds me of the way department stores used to be. The closest on is 60 miles away, but it's worth the trip for me!

There's one in Indianapolis--seems to be well-liked by shoppers. I haven't bought too much there personally, but I know some people who have purchased many things there.

We have them in Iowa....with the piano player and soft seating for a little shopping rest, very friendly service staff, no interest credit card and great shipping. I like them a lot. They don't blast you with advertising/inserts etc like our other department stores, but I kind of like the more laid back experience. And they carry the brands I like.

Von Maur is a wonderful store. We have one in the Detroit area. As said above, their credit cards not only have zero percent interest, they do not have a credit limit.

Any purchase from the store can be gift wrapped and/or shipped for free. The staff is always friendly and helpful.

It is pricey, but they have great sales.

Love the Von! I used to work at the Lombard, IL store when I was in High School. They have them in Chicagoland. I always have GREAT luck finding clothes, shoes, lingerie. Its fabulous and less intimidating than the huge nordstrom stores. Enjoy! You are a lucky duck. I just moved to madison and love going back home to shop :)

Peaches McPhee: The town I live in is getting one also and I am so curious about them. Our local based store, Parisians, closed and I have missed shopping there so much. Maybe this store will fill the bill for me.

It is a great store! Sometimes you can find some really good sales. Their customer service is the best and it seems to be storewide from all the previous posts. My store is in Louisville, KY. Sometimes, I don't mind paying a little more for good quality along with service! I use their gift wrap service in store and online and it is always beautiful.

We have one in my city, and I have to echo all the sentiments above. Great selection, great staff, great sales, and three words:

Interest Free Credit.

I don't use my card often, but when I do, it's nice to know that it's interest free.

eta: Also, their alterations are free, as well.

Shopped there for almost 20 years. Never had a bad experience and their CS is amazing.

I love Von Maur. I live 17 minutes from one. I don't buy a lot there, but I have bought some UGGS and Sofft shoes there and makeup.

We have one near me in MI. They are a regional dept store, based out of Davenport Iowa (according to Wikipedia). I rarely shop there, but they have nice stuff, although it's a bit pricey.

fantastic store! its upscale yet affordable. wonderful staff and the credit card is unique. my location has limited inventory yet the store is fun to shop in. its an anchor store in my mall, well lit and decorated for the holidays! i wish they carried more items.

My beloved Jacobson's store closed years ago and a Von Maur store moved in. Yes, it's a very nice store with very high end items. BUT it is extremely expensive!! In this day and age I really don't know how this store stays open. I can't afford anything there. And I think I'm pretty generous with my purse strings. I never find any sales advertised. I'd much rather have my Jacobson's back. {#emotions_dlg.sad}

HooverMom, Von Maur is a little similar to Parisian in that they carry some unique items that other department stores either don't carry or offer limited selection. For example, the Von Maur stores in Indianapolis carry a nicer selection of after-five wear, and they always have items which are on sale.

I'm not a frequent VM shopper, since I think their prices are a little high. However, I have gotten some incredible deals on sale items. I really like shopping the sale racks in lingerie/PJs/robes...have gotten super bargain prices on Wacoal, and I got a Cypress robe for $9. They also have a room (or more like a huge walk-in closet) with shoes on sale (VM carries some nice brands like Stuart Weitzman, Donald Pliner). Although they carry a small & limited selection of seasonal home decor, VM carries some very nice and unique boutique-type items. Again, I've gotten some great prices on Radko ornaments during the after Christmas sale.

Last, but not least, Von Maur's Ladies' Lounge are usually the nicest restrooms in the entire mall (same as the Parisian stores where I used to shop). Probably TMI here {#emotions_dlg.blushing}

The only Von Maur I've seen was in Louisville. I was impressed and would be thrilled to have them in my neighborhood!
