I always dread not being able to find REAL pants when Fall starts in retail. It seems like corduroy is everywhere, and I wouldn't touch it with a 10-foot pole!

I do not wear corduroy either. It was swish-swish too. I would wear out the slacks on my inner thighs. The slacks would wear like iron except for those inner thighs. The corduroy would also shed really bad too.

I like wearing corduroy pants (more styled like jeans and casual). I don't think I've ever had any swishing and mine never rubbed or pilled. Winters in Michigan are hard, so cords make me feel cozy.

They make a sound only if your thighs tend to rub together at any time.

To my ear, the sound isn't "swish swish" but more of a "zoom zoom."

One of my favorite jackets - an indoor blazer type jacket that also serves as an outdoor "coat" in early Fall -- is a semi-wide wale corduroy. It's a deep green. Almost "Christmas tree" green, but not quite.

I wear a thin, chocolate brown crewneck short-sleeve sweater under it.

Over jeans or casual slacks.

Can't find cords where I live. At least, not where I shop.

I remember a pair of maroon, thin wale hiphugger bellbottoms I wore in high school in the early Seventies. Wore them until pretty much all the wale had rubbed off, I wore them so much!

Wore them with one of those 2-inch wide leather belts that had a stitched pattern all the way around them like this -->

I don't think a corduroy skirt or jacket would swish. (I think both are great!)

There is nothing wrong with wearing cords in cooler weather.

Love mine. All I wear in the winter months. Fits, is forgiving and washes well. I get my version from Landsend.

I love corduroy. I have a corduroy Jones NY jacket and several corduroy pants. None swish or zoom; all are well mannered and quiet.

I bought several pair from J Crew last year, and wore them all winter. The cords nowadays don't swish like the ones from years ago. And since they're not jeans, I can dress them up and wear them to work. I like my corduroys!

No corduroy for me.

There is some that looks good. I just received the corduroy jacket/sweater that was on the Q. I know how that wide knit stretches so I ordered a size XL. I usually wear a size 1X.

Thank you ladies! Cordorouy must be a regional thing you cant find it in NY. I do agree that a corodrouy jacket would be nice and not swish just cant bring myself to buy the pants.

Blondilocks - I can relate as I have the same reaction to velour and velvet.

I like pinwale corduroy.........recently bought a pair of Levis super Skinny deep navy blue......(in men's or maybe older boy teen's dept., of all places!)........love them! I wear a belt with them. Very soft texture, and no "swish", etc. I happened to run across them on my way to women's dept.

I love cords -- I'd wear them all the time if they weren't too casual for work. My favorites are from Old Navy and Talbots. I look forward every fall to checking out the new colors they bring in.

I don't because I hate the smell of corduroy.

I purchased about three pairs of D&C corduroy pants a few years back and they didn't make that swishing noise like the corduroy pants I wore many years ago.

Cords were huge last year -- not just for pants but also jackets, etc. As some posters mentioned, the fabric has come a long way and I like it as an alternate to jeans - I got some charcoal cords at JCrew -love them!

I have two pair of cords. I live in Nebraska and the winter winds can be brutal, so I wear my cords if I go out to the grocery store or somewhere that I have to walk a distance. Mine don't make any noise either.

The way you speak of others does not define who they are, it defines who you are!

Love corduroy for jackets and big shirts (which are jackets too) but wouldn't wear it as pants. I don't think I've seen a cord skirt in years.

I got a swing jacket in denim colored cord from Chadwick's catalogue several months ago and it's my go-to for cooler weather.

In theory, I love it. In reality, I put it on and almost always end up taking it off and putting something else on... I've stopped buying it altogether.

I wear corduroy jeans a lot during the winter. I'm outside for recess duty every day and they are warmer than jeans. Once they're washed, they lose their stiffness. Found some great straight-leg cords at Eddie Bauer last year.
