What is the spectator look? I thought it was black and white but she was waving several colors.

Yes. I think it is always in style, because it is such a classic look. I love navy and white, black and white, and brown and white.
I sometimes add a pop of color in my accessories or in a tee or camisole.

It can be any white and color combo..I personally like navy and white better than back and white ..I like red and white too
I have also seen it done in back and grey, but it didn't do anything for me
I am considering getting white and navy shoes for summer

While I admire it on many women it is not a look that I will ever wear. I am totally boho - spectator is far too tailored and classic for me to pull off. If I ever wore a spectator style look people would be rolling on the floor having laughing attacks! ;-)

I like the look on other women but it's really not me at all.

I could just never pull it off either. I do think some women can though and it looks great.
On me, it would look very strange.:-p

?:| So, it's anything at all as long as it's one of any two colors?

For myself, I have never liked it and I never will. However, some women wear it very well.

Hasn't Joan been talking about the spectator look being in for years:) :)
That said, she pointed to a range of colors on one of her last shows when referring to spectator, which is classically a tailored black and white look. I can't pull off a head to toe spectator look, but appreciate it, but don't know when the other colors suddenly became spectator!

The spectator look has never gone out of style since probably the 20's or 30's. It's always around in the spring.

That's probably why I don't care for it. Nobody will ever confuse me with someone classy and chic, lol!;-)

Same here. Particularly love the black/white or navy/white.

I agree, the spectator look is extremely classy.
However, it seems to fit in more with the south. Like the Kentucky derby, lunch at the country club in Georgia
I have family from the south. One aunt who lives in a restricted community with golf courses and polo fields.
I don't know how that look would here in MN. Maybe in the summertime at the country club, or at a lake side reasturant on lake Nakomis, after your day of boating.
Love the look though. But for what I do outside of work, I may look ridiculous.

Kris ~
I agree the spectator look is very classy -- reminds me of old movies from the 1940's when women were truly fashion icons.
I don't think we would see much spectator attire around Lake Nokomis. I live a bit further west by Harriet, Calhoun and Lake of the Isles. The typical attire is shorts and running shoes, rollerblades, etc.
I am fortunate enough to have sisters that keep boats at the marina on White Bear Lake. Trust me, you will see skinny dipping, before you see anyone sporting the spectator look. ;-)

Is that what they call black/white and black/navy color themes? It if is. I've been doing "spectator" for several years now. Like today. I'm in a black skirt, black tights and pumps, white button down shirt and black leather vest. Yesterday, it was black pants, black boots, white turtleneck. I find that as I get older and my life gets busier, I have neither the time nor the desire play the "does this go with that" game with my clothes. When I do buy a color, it's almost always red so that it goes with everything else. I ordered the D&C tsv jeans in black. Yes, I love the spectator look.

Nope. It's black&white or navy&white

LOVE the look.
Yes, it is something you might see quite a bit of at the races here in Kentucky for the spectators ;-)
Those of us who spend more time in the barns (or used to, like me) tend not to wear this look much.
But I think it's a fabulous look and if I lunched at the club at the racetrack I'd be wearing it!

And I think Cherry is correct, spectator can be done in a number of colors.
Joan was talking about the spectator look in primary colors.
