Best/Most Comfortable and Flattering Jeans for Sizes 14-16?

Started 1289003606.88 in Fashion Talk | Last reply 1290707297.243 by shoppingfrenzy

Hi Ladies,

Okay, I like my body a LOT better at around size 12, but alas, I've been a size 14-16 since having kids and I must accept it on some level. That said, the one item of clothing that I feel has been out of reach for me lately is a comfortable & flattering pair of jeans. Regular wash-every day jeans. I have a pair or two of a dark wash, trouser-style jeans. But is there such a thing as a lighter-wash, flattering jean for someone who is not a skinny-minny?

Any recommendations? I've taken a look at the Not Your Daughter's Jeans at Nordies, but I have not tried them on. I also like the denim at J. Jill (one of my trouser-type jeans is from here and I really like them).

Thanks in advance!

:)

I am also a size 14-16 depending on the jeans. I am very much a pear shape, so for me, i really like the levi's curvy 529s. these are the only jeans that do no feel likethey are pulling down in the back. i do have other jeans too from other places, j. jill and coldwater and love them both, but they seem to stretch out fairly quickly and then are falling down on me.

if you are pear shaped, try the 529s.

catlvr-Thanks very much for the suggestion. :) Where do you get your 529s? I haven't worn Levis in so long I don't know where to find them! :) Kohl's? Macy's?

Levi 512 slimming jeans. They have a little higher rise and come in bootcut, straight leg, and skinny jeans. They come in many different color of denim including black. Zappos has them for around $38.00 dollars a pair with free shipping. Zappos also has the best customer service department I have ever dealt with.

I LOVE my Levi's. Every now and then I find a pair/wash that are lighter in the front than the sides and that look is extremely flattering to me. I wear the 515's - bootcut. LOVE them, they fit like a glove and feel fantastic.

I love the Not My Daughters Jeans. Try them in a size smaller, 12. I like the fit and the length! Your supposed to get them in a size smaller than your normal size. HTH!

Can't believe it myself, but the best jeans I've had in years came from K-Mart.

Another vote here for Not Your Daughter's Jeans!! I'm a size 16 or 18 and OMG, these are the best fitting, most slenderizing jeans I've ever owned. They are expensive, but I bought a pair of dark denim and a pair of black. I gave away every other pair of jeans I owned. Definitely go try them on, and be sure to start by going down one size. You will love them!

I found a pair of Gloria Vanderbilt at a consignment shop, size 16, with stretch that fit me perfectly. Super co fortable. I found these yesterday. I washed and dryed last night and wore them around my house today, have not "bagged out". Also, the pair I found are white no panty line etc. I googled them and they are supposed to be available at JCP and Sears. Maybe Kohl too. I had completely forgot about this brand. I plan on checking my local Sears and JCP for them tomorrow. My local stores are small. Next weekend maybe I can make it to the city check the larger stores and Kohls. If anyone has worn these recently I would love to know what your experience has been, where you found them etc. From what I found when I googled they should be available in colors. I also need some good khaki pants, any idea?

Ladies-Thank you SO much for all the replies. I've been away from the computer and finally now I'm having a chance to check in and read all the recommendations. Thank you, thank you!

Oh how I hate jeans that stretch out after a while. I have been wearing some Liz Claiborne jeans that I found about three years ago and am dreading the day that they wear out. I bought three pair because they fit perfectly (I'm a 14) and they don't get baggy. I saw some recently in the Liz line at JC Penney that looked similar but the fabric was nothing like the ones I have - it was a lot thinner. I tried on a pair and they didn't fit quite as well, they were too big in the back at the waist.

When I was in size 18 I found some really great fitting ones at Lane Bryant. I was able to get them in 16, 14, and even 12. I'm still losing weight and found some jeans at Walmart that are almost as good, but I may check out Fashion Bug to see if they have smaller versions of my favorites. I still have a big stomach so the Diane Gilman jeans are good for me too, I picked up a few pair at a local closeout shop.

I'm size 14/16 and pear shaped and found the best fitting jean for me was DKNY from Dillards. I may have to try the Levi's.

I'm the same size, and I've found a pair of jeans I really like at Kohl's. It's one of their brands, I think. As soon as they come out of the dryer, I'll let you know.

Of course everyone's "shape" is different, and preferences (low rise, high waisted, boot cut, skinny, etc.) - these are mid-rise (?) just below my belly button, and flare out slightly at the bottom.

It's not easy for me to find jeans that flatter me, and I think these do.

Sorry, I forgot I posted on here! I can only find the 529's at dillards. They are not the curve ID jeans that levis just launched. I think I also saw them on macy's website. Unfotunately, I need the short length and these are hard to find!!

3 words...

Silver Brand Jeans

They are the MOST flattering jeans for those of use not a size 6, I have ever come across. They are the jeans that make someone who is a size 16, look like they are a 12. But they're not cheap. And if you try them, be sure to try on the mid-rise fit (little higher than the low rise). These jeans hug curves like a glove and make a gal's booty look like a million bucks!

Agree, and the Levis are great too. Much better price on the Levis. I have both.

I think it depends on your shape, height, and proportions as much or more than your numerical size! I always shake my head when I hear people tout one particular jean brand as the "best fitting jeans ever". The fact that a pair of jeans fits one woman beautifully doesn't mean that it will fit another at all.

I hate to tell you, but I don't think there's a shortcut. You have to hike yourself out to the stores, carry some jeans into the dressing room, and try on until you find a make and style that fits and flatters. Good luck in your search for the perfect jeans for you!
