Gateway vs HP

Started 1303590195.463 in Electronics Talk | Last reply 1303612359.05 by ALTECHNET

I bought the Gateway NV79C55 from HSN and have had it for about a week. Although it has better specs than the HP TSV, I'm wondering if I should send the Gateway back and go with the HP? Here's a quick rundown of the gateway specs:

Core I 5 proc, 6GB DDR3 Ram, 500GB HDD, 17.3 inch screen. it does not have a blu ray player.

The cost of the HP is about $143 more than what I paid for the Gateway on HSN. I don't know. For some reason this notebook runs really hot and does not seem all that fast to me, even though I have the I5 processor.

Any opinions would be appriciated. Thanks!

Nicole

Just on the straight-up comparison of brand to brand, although I don't like either brand, if those were my only two choices of brands I would absolutely choose HP.

Keep the iCore 5 it's better than the iCore 3. 17.3" is a huge screen. I have 2x 10.1" 1x 17.3", 1x 15.6" Gateway with B-Ray, soft touch LED controls etc.. 24" ACER with ACER/Gateway Quad Core 8GB 3x and none these have any issues.

Thanks for the replies. Gateway and HP are new to me. I usually go with Toshiba. I havent decided one way or the other.

For curiosity if nothing else. Try Toshiba's site and build a computer the way yours is or the way you'd like one to be. You may be surprised by the outcome.

Noahsmum - I, too, am a huge Toshiba fan. I have 3 Toshiba laptops and you really get a lot of computer for your money. A couple of mine I happened to get on great Sunday ad deals.

I would not second guess myself. You computer has a faster processor, and the price was very good for a 17.3".

I use a cooling fan for the heat problem. http://www.amazon.com/Antec-Notebook-Cooler-USB-Powered/dp/B0000BVYTV/ref=sr_1_12?ie=UTF8&qid=1303599047&sr=8-12

I use a AC powered USB hub with the cooling fan to not run down the battery. http://www.amazon.com/CyberPower-High-Speed-7-Port-USB-Hub/dp/B0006TIA8Y

You can find a hub in a store.

I wonder why my reply didn't post. I was saying I'd keep the Gateway it has a better processor and more ram.

If the blu ray player is something you want and will use, then go for the HP.

I recently purchased a HP computer at Best Buys with everything the TSV has except the blu ray and am very happy so far. It's quiet and does not run hot. I had a Dell laptop for five years and that too was a good computer until it died.

The 17.3" screen is totally awesome!!

Good luck on whatever you decide.

In 2005 I got one for a gift HP 14" Widescreen top of the line laptop it came with Windows XP Home and AMD 1.9GHZ Mobile CPU and ATI PCI-E using 128MB for GPU. Looks like MAC. Still today it works with Windows 7 Ulimate 32-bit and very quick. Max the the RAM to 2GB stick on 802.11N @ 40MHz Dual Band Card on it. No real issues still going. Screen is that Ultra Bright today it's called LED LCD Glossy. Even got the 13 cell battery for it. HP is still number one, then ACER (ACER Gateway), ACER eMachine, ACER Packard Bell they're second place then DELL. For the money you can't go wrong with any of them.
