Candles

Has anyone tried Walmart candles w/only a pic on label to describe scent?

I'm heading to WM tomorrow and have heard that the jar candles ($5.00) with scents such as Bamboo & Pina Colada are great smelling? The woman who told me about them said the pic on front of jar reveals what the scent is of the candle....... I know this sounds confusing but am hoping someone knows what I'm trying to say.........has anyone tried them and what's your opinion?

I've tried the Better Homes and Gardens brand and they burn clean with no tunneling....Then there is the Main Stay brand and....they burn all right, but I like the BHG scents better. Both have decent throw.

Not sure what brand you are referring to, but they had some new ones the last time I was in the store...possibly it is them.

The key to burning any candle is.....let the wax pool completely across the jar before you blow it out....if I do that, I rarely if ever have problems. Also, I use S'toppers on top to keep the soot from forming...they really help.

Wanted to add that for $5, I would just try one and....see how it works. Better than spending a lot and being disappointed!

I have tried the walmart (mainstay) brand candle and found it to burn fast and also smoked. I love the soy type better homes and gardens candles but you can rarely find them at walmart. They smell good, burn long and don't smoke.

I think another helpful hint is to trim the wick after blowing out the candle.....always have heard to "start" with a short wick,,,,,I think it makes a difference.

I just picked up 3 Mainstain scents this past week because I could not find any of the Better Homes and Gardens brand. Pumpkin Spice, Pecan Pie and Everygreen mixed with something.

Have been burning the Pecan Pie and Pumkin Spice and was very pleasantly surprised at the throw and scents....very nice for inexpensive candles.

I would buy more of these and will as soon as I get back to Walmart.

They didn't smoke at all because I kept the wicks trimmed to 1/4 inch. I bought a special little wick trimmer a year ago and it really helps to keep the wicks short all the way down to the bottom of the candle. I was using scissors before and could never get the right angle....these are perfect for keeping the wick clipped.

JMO, but I cannot stomach soy candles...they always have a bit of an "off" smell to me...so I stick with regular candles. These are working out fine.

I prefer the Yankee candles but have used WalMart candles for everyday. The ones I use have a nice scent and burn well and are a fraction of the cost for YC.

I've purchased the Walmart candles as well, several different scents. Now I can't remember if they were BHG or the Mainstay. Actually, I think I've purchased both.

I haven't been disappointed with any of them actually. Most have been FAll/Holiday scents, and I buy a couple in each scent for a good sized room.

I don't buy tons of candles, nor do I buy the more expensive brands (though I have purchased Yankee candles, etc.)

My general impression is that WalMart candles are a good value for the money spent.

I agree, try one or two in scents that appeal to you, and if you like them, you can buy more.

The mainstay burn ultra fast but do have a good amount of scent. I prefer the BHG

brand they also carry. Last year I purchased the spice cake & caramel something and

was very pleased with quality.

You are allowed to remove the lid and SMELL them.

I've tried the Better Homes and Gardens and Mainstay brand. The burn evenly but they smell waxy to me and not fragrant like Slatkins or Yankee. I don't really like them.

Just yesterday I rec'd my order from B&BW with my Eucalyptus Spearmint candles. They are the BEST! I've been using these for years & anyone who's ever walked into my house loved the smell & went out to buy them. I should get a commission! They had a 1/2 off sale so I bought the large jars & some minis which are great for bathrooms or smaller rooms. The scent is so clean and they burn evenly with out waste.

Last week I bought a Yankee candle and it's horrible. Not the smell but the way it burns. I've been battling an uneven wick & wax. Maybe it's just me but YC doesn't seem to be of the same quality anymore.

I have had nothing but bad luck with any candle I have purchased at Walmart. I tried the Better Homes and ended up throwing the rest of it away. It burned black and there was no scent coming from it.

I learned my lesson, I'll stick to either Colonial, Yankee or Slatkin. Cheaper in this case, does not mean better.

I have tried the Cupcake candle with the pic. It's by Scensationals because I have the bricks also. Smells wonderful. I only buy BH&G & Scentsational bricks at Walmart. Just as good as Scentsy.

I don't understand why people burn candles that harm them.........why not 100% SOY which is safer all around, more fragrance, no petro.......no lead in wicks? I just don't get it that people burn cheap candles when they could go healthy?

Can you share where you purchase your soy candles from? TIA!

I agree about the wax bricks, right now I am melting the Tropical Coconut, my house smells like a Pina Colda. I melted them all weekend, turning off at night, did not have it turned on Mon. and when I walked in the door after work the house still smelled great. I have not bought Scentsy, since I read about these on this board.

I have tried numerous soy candles and all of them made me a bit queasy.....there was some additional scent that came through with the intended scent...I simply cannot tolerate the smell which I assume is the soy. Most of them got very soupy and stayed that way...did not burn properly...I gave up on them mostly because of the off smell (to my nose).

Lead in the wicks may have been a problem at one time, but I don't believe it is now.

I don't care for Scentsationals they take forever to melt also I smelled the cupcake scent and it did't even compare to Scentsy. I bought the Better Homes Tahitian Coconut and my husband said it smelled like paint. No joke! I also picked up Oatmeal Cookie by Sentsationals and it took forever to melt. I will say the Oatmeal Cookie smells good but it doesn't compare to Scentsy.

Most of Walmarts candles smell great when you open the jar and sniff them, but rapidly lose their scent when you burn them or store them.

Thanx ladies for all of your responses. I'll stick with the BHG bricks as I feel they're well worth the money.

I only purchased BBW in the past, but the past season I felt the candles had a very light scent and not worth the $$$$$$$$. As for Yankee, they don't burn evenly, even though I do let them burn at least 2 to 3 hrs. prior to extinguishing them.

Again, thanx and enjoy whatever candles you enjoy!!!!

Lol, I do that all the time!

My fave candles are Slatkin, which I discovered here on QVC. And after that, Yankee. But Walmart candles are just fine, and I have no problems with them at all, either the house brand or the BH & G.

PS: OK, I take back everything I said about Yankee Candles. Just purchased a net bag of their tea lights in an autumn scent---great smell in the bag, but none when they burn, and they burn so unevenly you only get an hour or two of 'light' out of them. Must have had a huge QC drop-off lately.
