Is there TRULY a mascara that doesn't FLAKE?

Started 1273373178.583 in Beauty Banter | Last reply 1273622946.437 by noposting

Hey Beauties.  I would so appreciate your words of wisdom about mascara.  Never has any cosmetic made me so frustrated as mascara!!  Before I totally abandon my search for one that doesn't FLAKE, thought I'd check with you.  You are my last hope!!  Magazine reviews don't seem very credible lately.  I'm so confused!  When I checked out reviews here, many say certain mascaras do not flake, while others say that the very same mascaras do flake.  How can that be?  It seems that either they flake or they don't.  Why would the same mascara flake on some but not on others?{#emotions_dlg.confused1}{#emotions_dlg.crying}

Thanks for any input you can offer.

Hi,

I like Clinique's High Impact Mascara, 100% Pure, and Benefit's Bad Gal.  Bad Gal lengthens my lashes, but the color is very light.  More of a natural look.  High Impact and Pure appear darker on me and lengthens my lashes.  One application is all I need from these two.  No flakeys or smudges.  hth

I know this may seem like I'm telling tall tales but I have never had any mascara flake on me.  And over the years, I can't even count how many mascaras I've used plus I wear it almost daily.  Are you using too many coats, maybe?  Currently I have Neutrogena Healthy Volume, Cover Girl Lash Exact Volume and Clinique High Lengths and Darac Lashtopia in rotation.

Bobbi Brown Everything mascara, Prescriptives False Eyelashes and Diorshow do not flake at all. When I am done with my FE stash, I will be using the other two exclusively.

Wanted to add; I'm thinking about trying Blinc.  Someone posted about Blinc on another thread.  My best friend uses it and swears by it.

I'm on my first tube of testing Reviva Labs mascara and not one flake have I seen.  It also dries very quickly.  My eyes are ultra-sensitive and it hasn't made them tear either.  We'll see how the second tube goes.  I may have found a winner.

Same here.  But I don't use any eyecream or other substance near my eyes before I start doing my eyes.  I reserve those for night. Start with BE Bisque as my primer.

I've used mascaras that have flaked so I know that some do.  Maybelline Great Lash, especially in waterproof has never flaked on me no matter how little or much I put on.

Great Lash is always voted best in magazines and I can't help but think that this is the reason.  It does not flake.  Period.

I am a pro photographer, the only one that I have found is Lancome Hypnose Waterproof. Love it!

Binc does well with not flaking or smudging, but so does Fiber Wig (Sephora).  I prefer the Fiber Wig because I get longer and thicker looking lashes with this one.  I am very oily and have a lot of trouble with mascaras but these 2 work well, but my favorite is the Fiber Wig.  I do like Binc when I want more of a natural look.

Thank you all for making time to respond.  I appreciate your suggestions & input.{#emotions_dlg.tt1} Now I'm wondering if the mascaras are not at fault & that perhaps there is something about my application technique that's causing the flaking.

I don't use any creams or products around my eyes when I wear mascara, except for shadow & eyeliner;  only use 1 coat of mascara;  immediately after applying mascara, (before it dries) I separate my lashes with an eyelash comb.

The absolute worst flaking mascara I used was Two Faced Lash Injection.  Not only was it all over my cheeks, but was all around the eye area as well.  That was 3 hrs after application.  I was so embarrassed!  Didn't see it until I went to the restroom after my Dr.'s appointment.  That's the last time I'll ever wear a new mascara for the first time when I'm going out.  The most recent mascara I tried was Clinique's High Lengths.  I liked it, however it did flake, but very little.

I haven't tried many of the others you mentioned but think that I will.  Perhaps I can purchase them somewhere that I can return them if they don't work for me.  Again, thanks everyone for your help! Smile

mally's volumising mascara does not flake at all.  neither does anastasia's mascara which I get at sephora.  also had good luck w/ Loreal voluminous and cover girl lash blast.  No flake or smudging on any of them.

I only use Bobbi Brown Everything Mascara and it doesn't flake on me at all. I also have tried and liked Benefit Bad Gal Mascara and Dior Show. I have used the BB one for about 7 years. It's my favorite.

I agree that BB Everything Mascara is really good, Mally's flakes on me, BE's flawless doesn't flake on me, Prescriptives false lashes is really good, too bad they are being discontinued.

The only mascara I will use is Mally's Voluminous (white tube).  It does absolutely everything she claims. I have short straight lashes, but since I've been using this I'm getting all kinds of compliments on my long lashes and people asking me what I'm using. I only put on one coat and WOW do I have lashes!!!  Absolutely does not flake, smudge, smear - nothing.  Easily removed with eyemakeup remover or even SCA Melddown or MAC's cleansing oil.

Prescriptives FE is being discontinued?!! I had no idea! That's all I've used for the last few years. I noticed with the last tube that it was flaking on me so I was considering trying something else anyway. I've read that Dior is rated really good so I was thinking about trying that. I did try Maybelline Great Lash once and threw it away. I have long lashes so I used to not wear mascara at all, but I started wearing it a few years ago because my lashes aren't as thick as they used to be. I was watching Mally's volumizing mascara last night. I don't know how many coats that model had on, but I don't like it when it clumps lashes together. It looked like the model had like only 10 eye lashes but they were really thick (coated) with mascara. I suppose that's clear as mud!

At the suggestion of a gal at Ulta I bought a L'oreal mascara a couple of weeks ago that I just love{#emotions_dlg.biggrin} i'd tell you the name but even w/my readers on the print is SO small I can't read it{#emotions_dlg.angry}...what i wouldn't give to have my youthful vision again!  it's in a gold tube with a red band around the upper part and the brush is curved..i got the waterproof & it's really nice!
