Whats the best way to exfoliate thin, sensitive, mature skin?

Started 1263189915 in Beauty Banter | Last reply 1263224878 by ladyroxanne
I need to exfoliate as I get clogged pores and flakiness but I have thin and fragile skin. Most scrubs just make my face more red than it already is.Are any of these glycolic pads a good form of exfoliating?I had the Youthfull Essence but that aggravated my skin and me.I had crystals in my ears and hair.Ugh!I read that Queen Latifah uses Cetaphil mixed with baking soda to ezfolita and her skin is gorgeous.Do you smart ladies think that would be to rough?Any help would be appreciated as I want to get something tomorrow.TIA

I have the same problems...redness and sensitive. I've quit using scrubs totally or anything rough. I've gone to gels and lotions for exfoliation. Several you might try:
Paula's Choice 1% or 2% BHA gel...love this one
LacHyrin 5% (Walmart)
MAsam 14 day lactic acid treatment in vials...love this one also...my face feels like glass after the 14 days with no dryness or redness.
Good luck!

I have sensitive, older skin and use Cetaphil and sometimes I throw baking soda into the mix (learned about doing that here on the BB) ...just ever so often. It hasn't been too rough for my skin. I also use the Wonder Cloth from BB&Beyond which I love.

Ice Elements 2-Minute Miracle would be a good choice..just make sure your skin is completely dry before you apply it.

The one I like is the 100% Pure Pineapple Enzyme - it's a powder that I mix with plain yogurt to make a paste. You can also just add water instead of the yogurt. It's the only one I can use and I have extremely sensitive skin. HTH

How about trying just plain extrin virgin olive oil. Apply and then add some sugar for 3 minutes.
Then rinse.
It feels so nice.

I have super sensitive skin and need to exfoliate gently. The two ways I have had most success with are Ice Elements 2 min Gel (just do make sure your face and hands are dry) and plain old rolled oats. I grind them in my coffee grinder until they are a very fine powder. I have a travel salt shaker from Walmart that has a spring lid and foam seal. I sprinkle the powder in my hand and add cetaphil, jojoba oil, or just water. The baking soda works but is a little drying for my skin.

Clarins Bright-Plus Gentle Exfoliating Peel - I put this on with my fingers...leave on for 10 minutes, then rinse. Your skin will be soft and glowing. I use it the mornings after using rx Tazorac the night before, and it gets rid of any minor flaking I might have.
SSC Glycolic Renewal Gel - I've used it off and on, since Jenn first aired. Came in the original SSC kit. Gentle, but effective.
I put away my scrubs for the Winter!

I have been a firm believer in a wash cloth and BufPuf for my sensitive skin. I cannot use AHAs or BHAs. Recently, I got a sample of Exfolikate Gentle. I must admit, I was wow-ed.
I bought a tube of it this weekend. It really does beautifully my sensitive 52 year old skin. I will continue to use it!

ITA with Exfolikate Gentle. I use the regular, but if I had sensitive skin I would definitely try the gentle. I think she makes an excellent product and highly recommend it.
