Does Arnica Cream Work?

Started 1342115644.787 in Beauty Banter | Last reply 1342219417.943 by Qvie Victoriah

Hi beauties,

I'm seriously considering some Restylane filler in the tear troughs under my eyes. I normally get minimal bruising when I get Botox injections but am concerned I may have bruising in the delicate area under the eyes.

I'm wondering if anyone would share their opinion on Arnica cream - does it work and if so, how long does it take to clear up the bruising vs. using nothing?

Thanks,

iachick

Don't know anything about bruising from fillers, since I never had them. I do know about other bruising, and arnica does work! In a matter of days v. two weeks. Just make sure you get a good % of the active, arnica Montana, and that you take the time to massage it in thoroughly, at least twice a day.

Hi, LAChick. Whenever I have a little, umm, "dental work," to use Kathy Griffin's expression, I take Arnica pills. Seems to work pretty well, but I've never tried the cream.

I picked up ARNICARE (arnica gel) from my local WholeFoods right after I had a non-elective procedure done AND it did nothing.

Sorry. :-(

Fresh ice pack for 10 min every hour until bedtime & warm compress for the next day or two helped a little.

I used to work for a plastic surgeon and one thing that helps prevent bruising and inflammation is doses of bromelain two weeks BEFORE a procedure and two weeks after. I did this with my facial surgery and it helped immensely to keep the bruising to a minimum and I bruise very easily!! Bromelain is easily found in health food stores.

This is the same info we gave out and works very well for anything like injections too!

• Take a Multivitamin tablet daily. Most multivitamins contain some form of vitamin E, however this is acceptable to take prior to surgery. We do ask that you refrain from taking additional vitamin E.
• Take Vitamin A - 8,000-10,000 units, twice a day. This has well-documented beneficial effects on surgical healing and will also fuel your immune system.
• Take Vitamin C - 1,000 mg., twice a day. This is essential for collagen synthesis, which is part of normal wound healing. Your need for Vitamin C will increase after surgery.
• Take Bromelain - 1,000 mg., twice a day. (Pineapple enzyme - from a health food store) This helps to relieve the swelling associated with surgery

Bromelain is awesome stuff. My mom uses arnica cream for bruising and swears by it. I use it more for my back pain.

Thanks everyone. Anyone else have experience with Arnica cream/gel for bruising OR something else that works for them?

I know Dr Oz highly recommends using Arnica and Bromelain. Bromelain is found in pineapple.

I have only used Arnica cream for pain and it works great for that!

Yes Arnica has worked for me and my family. I don't use the cream, I use the gel. I gave one of my kids arnica pellets before and after she got her wisdom teeth out and she had less bruising and swelling than my son did a few years earlier (who I didn't give Arnica to when he got his out).

I use Arnica gel whenever I do something that I know will cause a bruise and the bruise never gets very dark. When I use it on already present bruises, they go away more quickly and it diminishes the pain.

My vet gave my dog Arnica pellets before and after her last dental and she healed very quickly (had a few teeth pulled).

I am a fan!

I just had some reconstruction surgery from a Mastectomy. I used arnica OIL to help with the bruising! Did a great job for me. I did go to a health store and had a person help me find the best kind. ...And since I am so graceful, I can use it on my shins, elbows, thighs...LOL!

Love Arnica gel....always have it on hand as I sling bags for an airline and am always getting bruises...also like the homeopathic arnica montana 30x for internal use.

SUPER post! WOOT!

I definitely think arnica works. I use the gel externally on bruises, (I bruise if someone l00ks at me sideways) and they go away much faster than if I do not use it at all. I don't do any extra massaging if I use it, either.

My whole family uses it and knows it works, too.
