Started 1339612625 in Beauty Banter | Last reply 1340233346.467 by Kalli

Been on this change of thinking about food for about a week now...I lost 4 lbs (need to lose about 25) and my blood glucose numbers are wonderful. Not a full blown diabetic..but doc thinks I need to start being more mindful about food. Anyway...I love this new way of thinking...feel better, getting healthy...the jeans are just an awesome extra!

I do WW, but I am off sugar and yeast for 30 days to try to shake an annoying infection and I have lost 12 lbs.

It's amazing what all that added sugar adds in calories.

I'm just glad I only need to do this for a few more weeks. This girl needs some cake!

Congrats! I too have followed the paleo lifestyle. It is epensive and at times I caved and ate dairy and such, but I lost over 40lbs in less than a year. If I cut out grains and gluten I lose weight. Simple as that! WW never worked for me...it was too restricting and I always felt like I was on a diet. With paleo it wasn't a diet, it was a change of lifestyle and very rewarding (and filling!).

Maybe I have been under a rock, but I'm not familiar with the Paleo diet. What kind of diet plan is it? Is it somehthing you buy a book and learn about, or is there a program you have to join? Needing desperately to start a healthy eating plan and drop some weight, and trying to decide how I want to go about it. Thanks in advance for any help:)

This has been very easy for me...shopping for food is a no brainer for me now...its like"what would a caveman do"! No processed food...and since its just me (hubby is on the road) its not expensive for me....junk food isnt cheap either! I made Kale chips last night...they were a great subsitute for chips. Well I hope this works long term...I am pretty stoked about it.

It's identical to the " phase one diet" created by Doug Kaufman over 10 years ago. It's also known as the diet that reduces your risk of getting cancer. Check it out at www.knowthecause.com

We have liked "Primal Blueprint" has helped up a lot. Check out Marks daily apple blog by the author of the Primal blueprint. Like another poster said there is enough info on the web to not have to buy any books but I'm glad we did read his. Just do some net searching and you can find lots of info.

I have an issue with anything called a diet. I lost weight by cutting calories 5 years ago, and because I got used to eating low calorie foods I haven't gained anything back. That's even with eating out every now and then.

Let me know if you suddenly become interesting.

I think I eat this way and didn't even know I was on a "diet", LOL. I eat lots of veggies and if hungry eat more veggies. I also eat low fat protein at every meal.

No dairy on the Paleo Diet. And it's not really a "diet" it's more a way of life. I think cutting out grains is helpful for many inflammatory conditions, at least in my experience. I do okay with brown rice but not much else as far as grains go.

I eat fat free greek yogurt so I guess I'm a modified Paleo diet, LOL

No beans on the Paleo diet. (or dairy or wheat/grains)

Its basically fruits, veggies, meat and nuts.....people swear by it. I think I would get bored really fast.

I'm a big fan of Doug Kaufmann and his www.knowthecause.com site. His Phase One diet is great and I've been following Phase Two and Three as closely as possible for years. Check him out, especially if you're having health problems. Who knows, maybe FUNGUS is the cause.

I seem to be edging closer to this type of nutrition. I am not following a specific diet but making changes that work for me & my health.

No sugar, no wheat/gluten, no dairy...grassfed beef, wild caught fish, local eggs, raw nuts, etc.

I feel so much better eating this way. No plans to ever add the bad stuff back.

Just this week, I started the Belly Fat Cure........and I am amazed at all the hidden sugars or just plain how much sugar is in the food I have been eating!!! OMG! It is tough to give up the amount of sugar I have been eating without even thinking about it. 15 grams a day and that is it, but I know it will make a difference for me. Counting the servings of carbs goes along with this, and that has been an eye opener, too. Thing is, my hubby and I are still enjoying our meals and feeling full and just feel soooo much better without all the sugar and carbs! I know shopping will get easier and faster once we get the hang of this. I have worked out 6 days a week and watched the calories and still nothing worked, so I just have to believe the hidden sugars were making the negative difference for me. Good luck to all of you. It truly is a life style change and NOT a diet!

I started watching what I ate about 8 weeks ago. I cut out all white foods-rice, potatoes, bread, cookies, anything made with wheat. I've been eating meat, eggs, lots of veggies, some fruit, nuts & seeds, and low fat Greek yogurt. The first 2 weeks were H3ll. I had terrible cravings and lots of tummy issues. After a few weeks I didn't miss bread and bagels and pasta and I really started to just accept the changes that I had decided to make for myself. Basiclly, I did a lot of self talk. No one was forcing me to eat this way It's my own choice. I can stop at any time and go back to my old ways. I will only eat this new way one more day. Well, I did ok without junk yesterday, I guess I can do it today too. You get the idea. Well, by taking it hour by hour and day by day, I've totally changed my eating habits. I had a bite of DH's Danish last week and it was sooo sweet-sickly sweet. I wondered how I could ever have eaten them 2 at a time. In 8 weeks I have lost 23 lbs!!! I have not really exercised alot because of physical limitations but the weight just keeps coming off. I feel GREAT. My Dr. is thrilled. My blood sugars have been so stable and so much lower that he took me off of one of my diabetes meds and lowered the dose of my insulin.

I hope this will inspire some of you to at least try to cut out carbs and sugars. By giving myself permission to quit at anytime without feeling like a failure made it easier for me. I had no one to answer to except myself.I told no one I was doing this. I kept it to myself, this was between me and me.

I have to give a shout out to Oceantown ( where is she? haven't seen her here in awhile) She is the one who got me interested in the Belly Fat Cure. While I didn't follow that to the letter, I did my own thing, I follow the same lines more or less. So, thank you Oceantown for influencing me in such a positive way!
