If my memory serves me correctly, they officially went out of business approximately 3 years ago. Not too long after that, they came back to QVC, and I think it was due to QVC that they were able to be in business. Now that you mention it, I haven't seen them on in quite awhile.

That's sad. While I'm not a collector, I hate to read of any company going out of business.

These days, I spend a lot of time thinking about the hereafter... I go somewhere to get something and then wonder what I'm here after.

Seems like they banish anything of quality. Made in America for over 20 years.

Fenton is now defunct. As a long-time glass collector it makes me very sad.

From Wikipedia:

On August 9, 2007, Fenton Art Glass sent out a press release stating they would "cease... operations over the next few months."

Their plans involved laying off 25 employees immediately, and in the following weeks, the rest of their workers would be laid off.[7] However, on December 4, 2007, Fenton Art Glass released a press statement, saying that due to an unexpected buying frenzy and internal restructuring, the company would stay open until at least the spring of 2008.[8] In an open letter in August 2008, company president George Fenton said that thanks to the buying frenzy, the company had been able to institute some reforms, and wouldn't be closing in the foreseeable future.[9]

On July 6, 2011, Fenton Art Glass sent out a press release stating they would "wind down production of its collectible and giftware glass products."

According to WTAP TV, "The company cites financial challenges since its restructuring in 2007 and recent developments as factors in its decision to shut down its traditional glassmaking business. Fenton Art Glass says it's exploring the sales of one or more of its product lines."

It looks like they are just making glass beads for jewelry now. I hope they can somehow revive this 107 year old company.

I never ordered Fenton from QVC but I have purchased a few lovely pieces on the secondary market. I cherish them.

They still have a website

www.fentonartglass.com

Maybe they are just selling old inventory, I don't know...

Yes. They are making absolutely awesome glass beads that are a beautiful addition to my Trollbeads bracelets and fantasy chain. They are made in Williamstown, West Virginia, and I am proud to support them. I highly recommend them!!!!!

I purchase my beads from a local store in Marietta, Ohio, called Twisted Sisters. There are very few retailers that carry Fenton beads as they are relatively new to the glass bead market. The website mentioned above, www.fentonartglass.com, does have an online store. The details on these beads are hand painted. Enjoy!!!

Was Fenton glass used to be in WA? Or did I mix it up with the other glass company?

Even though I wasn't a collector of Fenton, I admired their works. It saddened me to hear they went out of business. They had quality products made in the USA.

I guess in this poor economy, glass vases and knick knacks are not what people have on their mind to purchase.

Respectfully ~

Fenton Art Glass has always been in Williamstown, West Virginia. They are located across the Ohio River from where I live in Marietta, Ohio. I agree that this economy has been awful for companies like Fenton, and the downturn of Fenton has been particularly hard on our local economy. I am hopeful that their new direction in the production of glass jewelry beads will help Fenton to survive.

basketsiam: I used to live in Parkersburg...in fact, that is where I met my DH, although neither of us are from the area. Haven't been there in ages, although we are planning a weekend trip sometime in the next couple of months. Love Marietta--what a pretty little town.

It is certainly rare when someone knows where Marietta is, lol!!!! Be sure to stop in the shops on Front Street when you visit. Great novelty items, antiques, Trollbeads, and Fenton beads. You will love it!!!{#emotions_dlg.thumbup}

Problems started coming to light when the Senior Mr Fenton

suddenly passed away & a few months later his son suddenly

passed away... & some other disasters came up...

QVC had no control over those matters....

There are ....MANY.... things to be mad at QVC for but Fenton

is not one of them...

Basketslam, I'm originally from Marietta. My dad had a flower store for 40 years down on Front Street. I always loved going on tours of the Fenton plant when we had visitors to our town. I'm very sorry that they had to stop making their great glassware. I'll have to check out the beads though.

I was looking at their website and they are beautiful beads. Do you happen to know if they fit any of the other bracelets?

I bout a few vases when they were going out of business on the q. I thought the Q did a story in their magazine, on how they were able to "come back" because money was infused back into the company.

They were struggling and about to either declare bankruptcy or close completely a number of years ago. They later made a comeback that seemed to last for several years. I don't really remember the story behind it but they may have worked something out with their creditors. I guess the economy was the final straw though.

I remember that from when I first started shopping in 1995, but it has been many years since I last saw it presented. These were the kind of things that first drew me to QVC.
