Perfume - Wanted! Something that smells like it's already soft and smooth...

Started 1323524207.807 in Beauty Banter | Last reply 1325608026.443 by mima

I must have 25 perfumes on my vanity and I like all of them, but I don't love any of them!!!

I have a quest - I'm searching for a perfume that when you first apply it, already has that wonderful, mellow, soft, and gentle smell to it. No harsh or sharp notes or edges. Kind of like a perfume you like and you've had on for awhile and it's really softened up -- do you know what I mean? But, of course, I want it to have a little staying power because once it gets to that point, it's about done!

Does anyone know of any perfumes that are sort of like that???

I know I probably haven't explained this right, so I hope you understand what I'm getting at!!

Thanks for any and all replies!

I have to say I love Philosophy Pure Grace and Amazing Grace for years - those are all I wear. But from recommendations on this board I ordered some samples of them from Pittsburg Soap Streetworks. She makes dupes of all kinds of fragrances at a fraction of the prices of the real versions. The samples come in a pack of 6 for $6 so I got to try some other scents as well. The AG and PG smelled just like Philosophy's and lasted much longer even at the cologne strength. But the one I was most surprised about was the dupe of Bobbi Brown's Beach. It smells so good and I could not believe how long it lasted. It is hard to explain because it doesn't smell like suntan oil or coconut - I just know I find myself smelling my clothes all day because it is so nice. The bottles of EDP are $12.50 from PSS. If you want to try some different scents til you find the one - PSS is the way to go.

Hi AngelPuppy,

Of course, I don't know what you have or what you have tested...but, I just want to suggest trying Prada Infusion d'Iris. I enjoy this scent so much.

I must say...upon first spritz, it has a citus type burst, but it quickly dries to a soft, powdery floral. It doesn't smell like "perfume" per se...more like a "bath" that lingered on your skin. It has great staying power and I have received some nice compliments when I wear it.

I also love Casma by Caswell Massey. More of a warm, powdery scent that also smells like a bath, not perfume. Also lots of compliments and really lingers on the skin.

Have fun and good luck on your search!

All the best, Neela

Vera Wang Lovestruck is wonderful.

You may want to look at fragrances that are missing the top notes. Most have top, middle and bottom notes, and it's the top note that is usually that sharp scent. Sorry I don't have any suggestions except possibly some of the perfume sites may have guides to the notes.

I am totally agree the Prada Infusion I'dris. I recommended to a lady when I was at Sephora, she tried and love it.

I like to use perfumed body lotion in place of perfume for that soft smell. I don't use it all over my body but just on part of my arms and close to my neck. My favorites are Donna Karan scents.

I, also, prefer to used scented body lotion rather than a spray fragrance. Nice and light and lasts all day. I have a few of PSS scented lotions and like them.

Have you tried StellaNude by Stella McCartney? I think it is so soft and feminine right from the start, but it last a long time on me.

I am a confessed perfume-aholic! May I suggest Prada's new one Candy-it is so luscious. All of her scents are gorgeous;I agree with other posts about Prada Infusion d'Iris also Prada Eau d'Ambre. Guerlain came out with an updated Shalimar called Parfum Initial;it's softer and not quite such a blast of vanilla. Lauder's Sensuous Nude is lovely. Have fun!

Poeme by Lancome is a perfume that makes people stop and ask me what I'm wearing. The scent is soft, feminine, sophisticated and classy. A single spray lasts all day. There are a few other scents that I wear on occasion, but Poeme is what I reach for 98% of the time. I love it!

AngelPuppy1, I know EXACTLY what you mean because I have been looking for my Holy Grail scent for about 50 years!!!! The old version of Amazing Grace Body Emulsion came the closest for me and my body chemistry. If you find something you love, let me know, because I would really like to try it.

All the ones mentioned by other beauties thus far, don't work for me at all.

I'm going to suggest Taylor Swift's "Wonderstruck". I have read only good things about it, about how soft & pretty it is. I got to test it out today, and it's so gorgeous. I'm not even a perfume person, if it's the slightest bit heavy or floraly, I get nauseous, but this was amazing, I can't stop smelling my hand!

With the reviews that I have been reading about Philosophy I am most interested in what scents are being suggested. I love Amazing Grace and it took me years to find it. I have a few bottles of the "old" scent and have been worrying about what I am going to do when it is gone.

I want a scent that smells like soap and water and the just got out of the shower smell - clean and soft and that was AG. I just can't beleive that a company would buy a brand that is doing so well and people love the products and scents and trash and change everything to save a few bucks.

I am making a list of the names mentioned and I am going to start searching so that when my beloved AG is gone I will have something to replace it.

Have you ever tried any of the CLEAN scents? Sounds like exactly what you're looking for. Philosophy scents don't last, either.

all of you came up with beautiful scents!! i adore perfumes, and feel its very feminine. to me its part of being a woman, i use some everyday. i enjoy the bath products, but forget to use them sometimes, i day dream while enjoying my bath. so everyone buy the one they like the best, it will make you happy, and will smile through the holidays!!

I really appreciate all of the very nice replies you all took the time to write! A lot of them have sparked my interest. And I believe many of you understand what I was trying to say. I cannot wear scented lotions as they make me itchy and make me nauseous; the same with powders. I use only a light sprtiz of perfume. But I want to smell dreamy and soft - to myself and others!
