How much do you tip your shampoo girl at Christmas?

Forgive me if this is sort of a duplicate post. I don't know what happened but the first post was finished and I thought I hit POST but I got logged off instead.

I don't always get the same shampoo girl but lately the same person has been shampooing me. I want to give a cash Christmas tip--not a gift. What is appropriate? Thank you for your help, ladies.

if i get a different person than my stylist, then i tip $5.00. she or he usually gives a great shampoo and does a nice head massage, brings me water or soda, etc. dang! i wish i had that at home. lol

of course, if the shampoo person isn't paying attention and water is going everywhere, no massage, etc., the tip goes down.

tip her what you'd feel comfortable with for christmas.

I used to go to a salon with shampoo girls and I always tipped them $5. That's for regular service. For a Christmas tip, I would tip her $20 if you want the tip to be a little more for the holiday. hth.

The salon I go to now, the stylists do all the shampooing so no need to tip a separate girl.

I had to laugh when I saw the question!

I go to a really funky unisex place - no shampoo girls. The stylist does it all.

Besides - I always shampoo at home before I go because I have vertigo issues and can't sit at those sinks.

I've only ever been to one place where someone other than my stylist shampooed my hair. I tried to tip her but my stylist said absolutely not. He was the owner of the salon and she was another hair stylist that just didn't have an appointment at the time. He also didn't ahve another appointment- he sat there reading a magazine while she washed my hair. That guy was a jerk and I never went back there after that (for other reasons than just that, btw).

DUH....WENing! :)

I remember when the stylist always shampooed your hair. Not the case anymore. I tip the shampoo girl $5 and $25 at Christmas.

I was in the ballpark of your suggestion of $20. Thanks for helping me do the right thing.

My hairdressor, the owner, has only washed my hair once in the three or four years I've been going to his salon. His assistant of the moment, washes hair, answers phones, sweeps the floor, etc. I notice all the other stylists wash their clients hair themselves. Oh well.

Again, thank you all.

Ya know,I have been thinking about my stylist.She owns the salon.Her husband shampoos my hair and then styles it...he even puts the product in. All she does is cut.Then it is 40 for her and I have to tip her hubby/assistant. i mean really...am I just being crazy,cause I'm thinking that the stylist is making out pretty well,as it does not take but a quick bit to actually cut my hair?? When did it become not cool for the person who cuts to shampoo and style,etc. Seem that if they want an assistant,should that not be their decision and they should have to pay them...not me.I am not a cheepo,by the way...I always tip well. It just is something that I never understood.{#emotions_dlg.confused1}

I live in Podunk USA where no one ever heard of a shampoo girl. I'm kinda glad because I wouldn't like having that additional expense.

My hair stylist shampoos my hair so there is no shampoo girl.

As far back as I can remember, there have always been separate people (both male and female) to shampoo, wash color out, do conditioning treatments, etc. Most of the places I've ever gone to have had this and still do. Often it's an entry-level position and they become stylists later on. I thought that only smaller or discount places have shampooing done by the stylist. Maybe it's a regional thing?

pinks, to answer your question, I would say $20 would be nice, but I'm sure she'll appreciate whatever you give her. Maybe a nice handwritten note too. {#emotions_dlg.sleep}
