Microdermabrasion machines...

Started 1318168602.45 in Beauty Banter | Last reply 1318298829.467 by newwyn

There are at least four of them being sold on the shopping channels. The Suzanne Somers crystal one, a wand shaped one, and the two that are the same NuBrilliance machine with one being sold by Dr. Denese. The NuBrilliance ones use a diamond tip instead of the crystals.

Has anyone found these to really help and give the claimed benefits? Any better results than just using a BufPuf or Skinn's Dermappeal? Any difference in the ones that use crystals over the diamond tip?

I have the PMD from SNBC and like it a lot. That's probably the wand-shaped one you're talking about. It works better for me than Youthful Essence and others where you use an abrasive cream.

I just got the PMD & have only used it once, but I am probably going to send it back. It seems too harsh for my face. It's only been a couple of days, but I'm not particularly happy with it.

Sorry to hear that, Vamp. My skin is pretty sensitive and I haven't had a problem with the blue discs. I do have to be more careful with the green ones though.

I haven't even broke out the green discs yet and don't think I ever will. The blue discs left my face looking pretty beat up.{#emotions_dlg.sad}

{#emotions_dlg.thumbdown}I used the NuBrilliance faithfully every other day on my chest and neck area since I bought it a couple of months ago. The power that takes off the surface of the skin is now so weak it's a waste of my time. I tried to take off the back thinking that one of the white pad things slipped into the tube, but I couldn't get it off. As far as the job it did, the crystals from a jar and a washcloth would do as well as this $$$$ stupid machine.

I'm glad you posted this because I was finding myself becoming slightly tempted by these machines. I'm 60 with good skin, but it's definitely true that even good skin becomes more fragile and thinner with age, so I was hesitant.

I use a 10% AHA (Paula's Choice) every 3 days or so, that seems to be doing a great job of exfoliation, so I think I will just stick with it!

I use the PMD and rotate with Skinn's Dermapeel. I love both of them!

I have the PMD and I honestly thought about returning it but didn't. I think that these machines have a cumulative effect, and the results don't happen after one or two uses. I don't see any major changes yet but I'm going to keep using it and see what happens.

I also think there is a learning curve. It took at least a 3-4 times of using it before I thought I was even doing it half way correctly. I believe that some people just can't use these machines because their skin is just too sensitive. I'm lucky because my skin is pretty tough, I've done chemical peels with no problems and the PMD doesn't really cause any problems either. My face gets a little pink and tingly for about 10 minutes but that's about it. I have only used the blue disks so far, not brave enough to advance to the green disks...yet.

I have the PMD--got it when it was <$100 on the Northern channel. I've only used it w/the "more gentle" blue disks. I have sensitive skin and don't think I'd use it with the "stronger" green discs. I am careful to not go too long in any one place and use a light touch. It has helped to get rid of a few skin discolorations on my skin, and to make my skin quite smooth. I don't use it more than once a week though. I've also found it to be very different than scrub-type exfoliants, which I find are very irritating to my skin and they wind up breaking me out. PMD does not do that---and again, I've very careful with how I use it.

Just used my new PMD for the first time. I really like it. Used the green disks on my hands and blue on face. No problems at all. I watched the video a couple times and had my face very clean and used witch hazel to tone before. It was super easy and, for me, a good purchase. I do not have sensitive skin but will use once a week per instructions to let skin renew and recover. This is one I recommend.
