SPLIT Fingernail - Genetic Flaw

How do I fix a fingernail that splits down the middle. I can basically run a piece dental tape right thru it.

I have great nails, except for this ONE .. which has been like this forever!

My Mother has the same problem. They put nail glue on it every time we get her nails trimmed ( she is 81, no polish.) The nail glue only works a couple of weeks. I no this probably does not help, but I thought I would chime in!

I don't have splitting nails but occasionally a thumb nail will crack very low. In order to help it grow out without the crack getting worse, I apply some nail glue and sprinkle on acrylic powder. I make a few coats and file down the patch. It falls off in a few days sometimes or it may last a week before lifting. I keep applying a new patch and the nail grows out to where I can cut it safely.

I have superglued a piece of toilet paper to a cracked nail to reinforce it until it grows out

I have long strong nails, but occasionally I get these vertical splits too. Since my nails are longer, my nail tech usually just cuts the split part off. If it happens and my nails are already polished I use nail glue in the back of the nail to keep it hard until my next appt.
