Need a nude lipstick for a fair-skin woman

Started 1317057774.52 in Beauty Banter | Last reply 1317391027.607 by katz1

I would love to be able to wear a nude lipstick or gloss while playing up my eyes. An Estee Lauder SA told me that I could not wear one because I am fair, and it would wash me out. That is probably true. (I have dark brown hair, light blue eyes and fair skin with pink undertones.) But I am wondering if any of you ladies with coloring similar to mine have had success wearing a nude lipstick. If so, please let me know what brand and shade you are wearing. I might be able to pull it off if I find a shade with enough pink and shimmer in it. Thanks!

What the SA told you is pretty much right. I am fair skin, pale green eyes, neutral undertones. In order for my eyes to pop, I have to wear a cool toned, brighter lipstick. Fuschia, raspberry, even the right red works wonders. The only nude-ish lipstick I can wear costs a fortune! Tom Ford's "Casablanca". Also, Chanel "Boy" is a close second. You might want to check those out online.

I would go for a very pale opaque pink rather than a nude. That way you will still have the eye emphasis without looking washed out. MAC makes one that would be perfect on you but I cannot for the life of me remember what the name is

I have one for you!

L'Oreal Fairest Nude!

It's lovely! :-)

Here's a link to a blog (not mine!) with swaches, pictures, etc.

What many women don't understand is that your natural lips...aka a nude color is usually a pinky color tone, not the traditional "nude" that you are thinking. Bobby Brown shares this tip everytime. Try a very light pink gloss or something like Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment in Rose...its a very natural pink aka nude color. I'm also very fair and this color is very flattering and light, it will allow you to play up your eyes like you want.

This isn't a lipstick but the color of this gloss makes a really pretty nude lip on me. I am extremely fair with blue eyes and dark brown hair.

I guess it depends on what you consider a nude lipstick, but I don't agree with the SA told you. I'm fair skinned and I wear nude lipstick all the time. You just have to find the right shade for you. I find that nude lipsticks that look like concealer or are too brownish are not flattering on me. I like nudes that have a pinky or peachy tone to them. I second the L'oreal Fairest Nude recommendation. It is very flattering on me. I also like Mac Bare Again and Rimmel Provocative Nude. You could also try a light pink lipstick like Mac Hue or Rimmel Airy Fairy. Those are just a few that work well for me. :) Also if you have a nude lipstick that you think washes you out too much you could always top it with a pink lip gloss to make it more wearable.

Nars ~ Chelsea Girls. It comes in a pot which is kind of annoying, but the color is beautiful.

I also am a platinum blonde, with very fair skin. I like the natural colors too, and often feel washed out. Some that have worked for me are, Hue from Mac, with a spice liner, and I just got a lighter pink, I use Half Red liner from Mac also. Maybe top it off with a plumping gloss. I don't like anything in the brown tones for me...looks so nice on others, but for us really fair skinned girls, I think it looks so drab and old.

I agree--I've seen nude lips look fabulous on fair skinned women, but they can also make them look washed out. The key is having the right nude for your skin tone. What works for me (I am also fair) may not work for you, but there aer some good suggestions that have already been made here, so all you need to do now is go out & try a few. Don't give up on those nude lips--just make sure there is a tiny bit of color & contrast so you don't appear washed out.

While you're checking out L'oreal Fairest Nude, also check out Organza. I'm on my second tube of Organza, and I never buy a lipstick twice! (Except, now I'm going to have to look at Fairest Nude next time I go to the drugstore...!) Other nude lipsticks I like are Clinique Buttershine in Adore U and also Delovely. Delovely is a little darker, but both are neutral pinky nudes. I am porcelain-pale with super dark hair and green eyes, so I have to be careful about the washout too. HTH

Maybelline has a nice range of nude shades right now.

I'm in the same boat: very fair but with very deep pink lips. It's hard to get a nude looking lip.

Sometimes for a 'neutral' look, I'll use a lippie that is the same color as my natural lips. Fresh's new lippie in Passion is perfect for me.

Maybelline is my favorite also. dosey, the display will have the shades sorted into categories,"naturals, browns, reds, pinks, plums." This should help you with your lipstick choices.

If you have time, you should look at Burberry's Nude-Rose lipstick, with their Rosewood liner. I just saw it demonstrated in their "Nude Look" video on You Tube, and the color was put on a very fair model. It looked beautiful!

Hi-I just recently got a Laura Geller trio of her marbled lipsticks and they GREAT and nude-ish. And great for light skin, like mine. I will try to get the item #.

Over 40. Dark hair. Fair, with mild-moderate Rosacea. Finicky skin. Did I mention--Gorgeous? ;)

Try NYC #301. Inexpensive and certainly worth a try.

I am very fair and CANNOT wear plain nudes or lipsticks iwth frost. When I wear nudes I look dead. When I dl wear nudes, it has to have some color with it such as nude pink or nude peach. Good luck with your search. If you purchase a nude that doesn't look good on you, you can always add a colored lip gloss to perk it up.

I second the vote for MAC Hue and would throw in Bobbi Brown "Bare Pink." I have two of those so I can keep one at home and one in my purse {#emotions_dlg.thumbup}

At Walgreens yesterday I saw a display for L'Oreals Project Runway Collection ... beautiful pinky nude shade called "Sultry Raven's Pout" ... absolutely beautiful. I am blond and it suits me. It's a limited edition ... also bought the matching blush with the same name ... #725 on both. You might want to check this out.

Three words:

"JING-A-LING"

Like you, I'm fair, and too-nude colors wash me out--however Benefit's Jing-A-Ling lipstick is THE best neutral for women with our coloring. It is the best color of all time. {#emotions_dlg.tt1}
