Keratosis Pilaris and Clarisonic for Body

Started 1314443009.027 in Beauty Banter | Last reply 1314998625.66 by love BE

I have KP, little bumps of extra skin over every hair follicle... all over legs and upper arms. Worse in summer (IMO)- I think because protein production increases in summer (i.e, hair grows faster). I exfoliate when showering, but still have the bumps... ANyone try the Clarisonic for this lovely, beautiful condition ? Thanks for your thoughts!

Hi Knitgirly. I have the same problem, and have found, through experience, that manual scrubbing only irritates the situation more. I've had great success using beta hydroxy acid (BHA) on my arms and within days, my skin is smooth and KP free. I buy my BHA from Paula's Choice; it comes in gel, liquid, and lotion.

Hmmmm, never thought of that, but could be the case... Thank you for helping Chyna. I find this condition not only unattractive but uncomfortable as I feel the bumps all the time. {#emotions_dlg.thumbup1}

Also, if you go to Mario Badescu's website and look on the lefthand side, he makes specific products for this condition. They have awesome customer service, and they'll even send out samples to you, free of charge. That's how I tried out a few of their acne products.

I find a skin treatment body cream helps a lot, such as Isomers with matrixyl. Or Skin2 Body Cream with MaMa lotion in it.

I have been dealing with this condition forever on my upper arms and it is quite horrible! Right now I am using Mario Badescu's AHA body wash and the papaya lotion after showering. I also just started adding Clearasil scrub and it seems to help it a little bit. I find that exfoliating actually makes mine better. I do use the clarisonic on it if I happen to use it on my face that morning. Not sure if it helps or not. Best of luck! It is so horrible as nothing can totally get rid of the condition. So frustrating.

This is exactly what I was going to say! I use the skin revealing AHA one and the weightless BHa one and together they free me of my ugly bumps. I must use consistantly, a few times a week or they come back but this stuff is affordable and works like nothing else I've ever tried!

From my 6+ year battle with severe KP, manual exfoliationg does NOTHING. It helps a little when you have started the chemical exfoliation (after a few weeks of treatment I exfoliate with a sugar (NOT salt too harsh) scrub 1x a week). I used KP dermadoctor for a while but its $$$$$$$$$$$$ Now I use philosophy soul owener exfoliating "foot" lotion. The second ingredient is glycolic acid. It works like a charm and costs soooooo much less than DD. HTH

BHA from Paula's Choice did nothing for my KP or for my blackheads! I thought it was useless and oily. I had the liquid type one..like a toner. I don't see how others have good luck with this.

I do not use that, I use the BHA BODY TREATMENT.(sorry for screaming) It's called weightless body treatment and it is. It's so weightless i sometimes have to put a more substantial lotion over it because I have dry skin. I alternate it with the AHA revealing one. THe weightless body treatment is really effective for me, I have never used the other formula of the BHA.

I went to their website and found this product. The reviews are quite impressive. I think I am going to order a few samples of it. Anyone know a free ship code? I don't want to spend over 20.00. thanks!

Ok, you've convinced me to order this. :) I've dealt with KP forever and have tried more products than I can mention. I'm currently using LacHydrin (contains lactic acid which is an AHA). It helps, but the KP is still there. I'm hoping this BHA will help. Since I'm ordering from their website, any other Paula's Choice recommendations I should consider?

My dermatologist recommended the Eucirin Repair lotion with alpha hydroxy and it works great. In fact, it cleared everything up. I think it's the Eucirin Plus Smoothing Essentials lotion. I paid 9.99 at Target for a 21 oz bottle! I know there's something called KP Duty at Ulta for $36 that's supposed to tackle this issue, but luckily I haven't had to use that.

I thought I should post an update. I started using the mario badescu products I already mentioned above, the clearasil body scrub and epiduo - combo of a retin a and benzoyl peroxide and the bumps are gone! They dried up and are gone! I am still dealing with redness on one of my arms and some scarring..not sure how to get rid of that but so glad my arms are basically smooth!!!!! I am not sure if it if one or two of these products working or the combo of them all but I am sticking to it!
