Can we get a great brow marker for women with gray hair?

Started 1311630490.303 in Beauty Banter | Last reply 1311876837.177 by Daysdee

A couple of years ago, I decided to stop coloring my hair to take a look my gray hair. My original hair color was dark dark brown. My lashes and brows were black. I lucked out and have a great head of salt and pepper gray hair with it growing grayer yearly. My problem is finding a eye brown pencil/marker that is not too black nor too brown. Unfortunately I have purchased both Laura Geller and Mally's taupe eyebrow markers and they are awful for my coloring. Black markers are much too dark and harsh for a mature face. The other choices offered have too much brown/red in them...

I currently used YSL Dessin Des Sourcils Eyebrow Pencil in ASH and it is fabulous, but I would love a marker in that same color that cannot be rubbed off. Am I the only gray-haired lady having this problem?

Help, please... Laura Geller, Mally, Bare Essentials, Clarins, Perscriptives and whoever else makes a full range of makeup... we need gray(ash) eyebrowmarker/that works.

It is not a marker, but . Clinque makes a powdered browshaperr. In a silver box like their eyeshadows . It will last for years and years the color is called 05 Charcoaled . I let my hair go grey for about 3 years. This was the only color that looked completely natural.

Same problem here. I've let my dark brown hair go white/gray and I love it. I have to lighten my eyebrows because they are very dark brown. I then use a blond eyebrow pencil but it looks stupid. I too would love to find a gray eyebrow liner. Joan Rivers has a product she sells here at QVC: a fill-in powder for your roots or eyebrows. It comes in a salt/pepper shade. No, I've not tried it yet. I'm afraid it may make my eyebrows too dark. Taupe eyebrow liner or gel just doesn't do it for me. Hope the powers-that-be are reading this !!

I have salt n pepper hair and dark eyebrows with a few thick white hairs in the brows. My solution is 2 products from Anastasia - most days I use only her eye pencil; some days I follow up with her tinted eyebrow gel. As you have all stated, the key is the right colors - these definitely work for me.

I get them at Sephora.:

Anastasia Brow Wiz - Medium Ash - Item #1056100, $20.00

Anastasia Tinted Brow Gel - Granite - Item #998872, $21.00

I thought that Doris Dalton had a grey color in her brow product.

I know too much to go back an' pretend.

Hi There:

I am just getting a stray gray hair in my brows here and there but I'm probably 1/2 gray on my head. I use Joan Rivers "Great Hair Day" powder on my brows and my grays in between colorings. My hair is medium brown, but her powders run dark. I use the blonde color in the powder, not the very blonde, just the blonde. It works like a charm.

Hth's.

I love the brow thing that Laura Geller sells. It comes in a brown that is light colored. Look it up it's light.

I like the YBF pencil sold on the southern channel. For a drugstore product I like Maybelline's Define A Brow in the Dark Blonde shade which is a medium taupe color.

Avon Glimmerstick has a brow pencil called "blonde"...but it's really a beige-y color that looks ok with gray hair.

I stopped dying my hair. I have silver white hair and it is vibrant and shiny. Most of the time trying to find products for gray and white hair is like a treasure hunt with little or no results. Everything out there is for those ladies and gents who dye their hair and COVER the gray. I have found products but I pay dearly for them. The brow products I have never looked for and I guess if enough of us stand up and say no more dye perhaps we will finally get something for us.

I've actually used eye shadow to fill in my brows. That comes in all sorts of colors. You can apply it with a tiny brush, or one of those spongy eye shadow applicators, using just the edge.

Have you tried some of the eye-liner markers with fine tips? Palladio makes them, and it's very inexpensive. Maybe buy both a brown and a grey and use both at the same time.

Benefit She Laq or MakeUp Forever Eye Seal will seal the color of any eyebrow pencil so it doesn't come off. So if you like the pencil you are using now, you can still use it without worrying about it being gone by the end of the day. Unfortunately, Benefit discontinued She Laq. You can still find it on Ebay & a bottle will last a long time.

I have greying light ash brown hair, and use Anastasia brow gel in granite. Perfect. The powders they have also have shades that would work for grey hair.

Bobbi Brown had a new brow color tonight in her show, it's called Cement. I'm going to give it a try. Anyway if this doesn't work as a brow color it will be a nice eyeshadow! :)

I so agree! I have light ash brown hair that I quit coloring a couple of years back. I really like the silver but as more and more silver comes in I have had to re-think my makeup. I was using Clinique automatic pencil in I think soft brown. When that ran out I started using BB eyeshadow in Slate with an eyeliner brush with good results but think I will need to move to a light charcoal as I get more silver. Cement may be the ticket. I know several people who use eyeshadow too. You guys are so helpful. I am newish, have been lurking when I got the chance. Hope I can take part more often from now on.

Thanks so much. Clinque used to be my go to makeup...I love their things...I will take a look.

Don't think so just returned her taupe a few days ago because they said it worked for women with gray hair...didn't work for me.

I don't mind my friends NOT dying their hair, but they do look at me cross-eyed (with a smile) because so many people stop me to say they love my hair.I told them as long as they continue to hang out with me,they are fooling no one. Actually they look lovely with their hair color. To each his own... I am lucky, my gray has come in beautifully. It looks like my hair has highlights ...it is equal amounts white, pale gray and a slightly darker gray. I was to darn lazy to keep up the color...I must say men do like women with gray hair as long as it looks great. My hair is shoulder length with a beautiful cut. I do think you are right about the beauty industry...they are so busy celebrating how one can stay 25 for life, that they forget many of us at this age have disposable cash and we do not think of ourselves as old, but like fine wine.

I just dye my eyebrows with Just for Men (Mustache and Beard). They make a dark blonde that looks just great - dark enough to see the brows, but not too dark to look "dyed."

I don't know why they always say for grey hair to use the taupe. That has never looked right on me. I end up not using it after a few tries. I guess had I been a blonde in my pre-grey days it would work, but I never was.

I just returned Laura Geller's taupe and Doris Dalton's taupe...my eyebrows are black but sparse...anything with brown looks weird, odd, tacky. The YSL is a gray/charcoal but a pencil smudges and I would like other options.. Thanks!

I love my silver hair, but I'm not happy with the few white hairs that have appeared in my eyebrows. Recently, I started using Blinc Eyebrow Mousse. It's easy to use, looks good, and, most importantly, stays on.
