Anybody have info about new Aveda hair treatment (like Keratin ones but safer) coming out soon?

Hello beauties :)

Supposedly there is a new Aveda hair treatment similar to the Keratin ones that addresses frizz/texture but is safe (launching in the next few months?). Do any of you have info about it?

The only info I've heard other than it being supposedly safe is that it is permanent (unlike Keratin treatments which wear off over time).

If any of you have insider info I'd greatly appreciate it! :)

TIA!

It looks like it is available at Aveda Salons. I would check out the OSHA site and read the hazard alert on hair straightening systems; basically it may look like formaldehyde is not included but it can be there just in a different name.

I am not sure how it would be permanent; unless it is like the old straightening systems. But then what do you do about your roots as they grow out.

Coke Zero-Thanks for your reply :)

It's not out yet anywhere but is supposed to be in the next few months. Many Aveda salons do offer Keratin Treatments (Brazilian Blowout brand, etc) but this one is supposed to be an actual Aveda brand treatment.

What is the ingredient they are using instead of formaldehyde? From what I understand it is the only thing that gives the results. There are at least 12 different names for it & most claim to be safer but they are not.

Coke Zero-I'm not sure? It was an Aveda employee who told me it would be out in the next few months. It sounds a lot like the link that you have except she claimed it permanently altered your hair.

I've had the Coppola Keratin Treatment done twice & Brazilian Blowout done but stopped a while ago after I heard about the dangers. At the time I tried to be safe & make sure I was choosing formaldehyde free treatments (which the both claimed) but after more info has come out it's not worth it to me. I LOVED the results (esp the Coppola) but it's def not worth risking my health!

Maybe I'm wanting too much but I'm really hoping this new Aveda one is the best of both worlds! :)

Please post when you know more. I would like to straighten out this mountain of curls just once.

I go to an Aveda rain salon in Noblesville, IN. I'll have to ask them about this. My stylist recently left and went to a new salon so I haven't been to Rain in awhile. They have been trying to get me to use the Brazilian treatment for awhile, but I've been apprehensive due to the chemicals. I'll have to ask if they have this. THANKS

winamac-Any word from your salon on this?

I got my hair cut last night & they said they are going to be offering it soon. I asked how much it will cost & it's outrageous. They said $90/hr (and mine would take 5 hours) + $120 + some other fee. It seriously added up to almost $1,000. And, they've never done it on anyone so that scares me. The "training" was watching a video-lol.

Just curious what your salon charges?

There is nothing new here except that Aveda is entering the curl control world.

It is impossible to compare this treatment to a Brazilian Keratin treatment because it is a chemical service. The main active ingredient is Ammonium thioglycolate, the same as most hair straightening treatments and perms. This system uses a neutralizer, like a Japanese straightener.

There are variations in the use of this system, but again, there is nothing new about this.

I am a hair straightening and texture expert and have been a chemical specialist for over 20 years. I have not used this particular product so I cannot honestly tell you how it compares to others. However, I would group this in the catagory of chemical services, where keratin treatments are not in that catagory.

Just because certain products say they are not formulated with formaldehyde, it does not mean they are safe. Check out this website and read the ingredients of any product that you intend to buy. This site tells you what ingredients to look for that disguise themselves as formaldehyde.

This is interesting to me. I have been wanting to do one of these procedures for a while, but, have concerns about the chemicals and the damage to my hair. I trust Aveda though, they have great products and wonderful people working for them that really understand hair. I would think that anything Aveda does, will be without chemicals and very good for your hair.

Please keep us up to date about this product and all you can learn about it. Thanks.

Interesting article that mentions how some of the treatments that claim to be formaldehyde free are still problematic.

I had the Coppola treatment and asked my hairdresser about the danger. She said it doesn't contain formaldehyde, but it does contain A-maldehyde (sp?) and it's lower than the amount contained in one maraschino cherry. I hope she was telling me the truth.Smile I loved the results but mine only lasted about 5 weeks. I'm about to do it again so I can have frizz-free hair on my vacation.

Warning on the link above -- I clicked on it and it shut my computer down. Signed back on and it threw me off again. I hope I didn't get a virus.

Hmmm... so odd I run multiple virus checks and no problem. The link is direct to the NY Post. Which of the above links did you have trouble with?

Havent heard about this one but sephora just started carrying this new keratin line (comes in a black and pink bottle) and it looks really good. I wanted to try it out but was waiting for some reviews. You can check that one out..

I just had the Keratin treatment last Tuesday. My stylist said she just started using it and had refused to do the Brazilian treatment. She says she has used it on her hair and it looks good. My result is amazing but she did not cut my fairly short hair. It for sure, is verrrry straight and I am having a hard time styling it. She gave me a good price because she wanted to see more results on her clients. She charged me 150.00 and gave me the shampoo and conditioner. I trust my stylist so if you have a good one and can afford it, go for it.
