Trying on panties in stores (over your own panties).........

Started 1305730013.443 in Beauty Banter | Last reply 1306073586.68 by claudia__anne

Does anyone do this and/or do you consider it to be acceptable? Just wondering what most women do and what your opinion is of this. I personally don't do it but I certainly have wasted tons of dollars on underwear that I end up not liking even when buying the correct size and thinking that they will be comfortable by just looking at them. I mean let's face, comfy underwear that fit correctly are not exactly easy to come by! {#emotions_dlg.unsure}

I never thought about it until I ordered some panties online from herroom. They say that it's OK to try them on and return them if necessary as long as you try them on over your other panties and the tags are still on. Obviously they have the right to deny your return at their discretion. (For the record, I spent a small fortune and didn't like hardly anything I purchased but I kept everything anyway).

I'm not sure that I would ever try them on in a store but this has me curious as to if other women are doing this.

And I repeat again...........(I am ONLY talking about over your other panties!!)......Discuss!

I never have. I buy one pair, wash & dry it. Try it on. If it works, I buy more just like it.

I wouldn't do it. The thought of that garment touching someone else's crotch is just disgusting to me - clothed or not. I buy them without trying them on and if they don't fit properly, well that's just my fault. They do not get returned.

Never try them on. I've worn the same size, same brand for years and years.

Well, I don't spend a lot on panties and have found the Hanes cotton high-cut briefs IN A PACKAGE to be quite comfortable. I just feel better that they are in a sealed, unopened package (I still do launder them prior to wearing). They are reasonably priced and very, very comfortable and come in nice colors and patterns. I know they are not fancy and sexy like something from Victoria's Secret, but they are fine by me and, sorry, I cannot see spending $5 or $10 on one pair. That's just me.

Speaking of trying on things, I hate bathing suit season because of having to try them on (with panties, of course) and they have that little slip of paper in the crotch area.

Not acceptable. You should know your size. I buy the cheaper ones in packages, so I don't have to worry about someone doing this. gross. (yes I wash them before I wear them)

If trying on a bathing suit please wear your underwear and don't take off the tape strip.

thank you!

I've been wearing the same brands and styles for so long that I can't remember if I tried them on or not.

To me it doesn't seem any different than the bathing suit reference in the previous post - - - both are closely fitting to the crotch, so if someone else has tried it on, there's some "ick" factor going on!

I don't know what that slip of paper in the crotch is supposed to do though. There's no difference between the slip of paper or a piece of material touching someone else, then touching me.

I do try on bathing suits, but I wear a panty liner. Maybe the same could be done for trying on panties.

EWWW! I just do what others have posted, buy one pair and try them, or if I get a nice discounted on multiples, I'll keep the one pair I tried and return the others (that I haven't tried on) if they don't work out, but I usually just stick with what I know works.

No, No, No.

I wouldn't think of it. And I'd hate to think anyone tried them on before I bought them.

I don't care if they're wearing bulletproof panties when they try them on.

Just Ewww.

It is not just about size; it is about the cut and the fit. I have worn VS panties for YEARS. However, in the last couple of years they have changed the cut and gone with cheaper fabrics and elastic, so they no longer fit. Trying to find a replacement has been quite difficult. I did resort to trying on some panties on top of mine at Kohls recently. I see it as being no different than trying on a bathing suit.

If you know your size and style, then you don't need to try them on. If you're trying a new style that you've never worn before, then you should just buy one pair and try them on at home. The thought of anyone trying them on in the store, then returning them to stock just skeeves me out. {#emotions_dlg.blink}

Absolutely!! But, I still find it gross and I also find that strip gross, which after many try-ons by others gets to look worn, etc. I always think that more than likely some women have tried them on without panties! DISGUSTING! {#emotions_dlg.scared}

I would NEVAH try on underwear in a store. Nor would I ever return underwear. We did retail once and we would no accept returns on undies. {#emotions_dlg.thumbdown}

I buy the Hanes for the same reason, they are sealed, unopened. Just as a suggestion, Hanes has the size chart on the back of the pkg. You may want to go to a store and look up your size from using their chart. I wouldn't feel comfortable trying on underwear over underwear, or the thought that someone else did. Gives me the shivers.

I agree and if it is a new style and I get it home and don't like it, I just chalk it up as a loss. I wouldn't think of returning them.

I dont see anything wrong wtih trying on panties as long a you are wearing your own underwear underneath. However, as someone stated above, I know my size and what I like so there is really no need for me to do it.

Went to Dillards recently for a bra fitting. Tried on about a dozen before finding a fit. But when I wanted a slimming brief also, I didn't try it even though the SA suggested I might want to. Obviously, some women do try them.

It does have an ewwww factor - but what's the difference between trying panties, bathing suits, shorts, jeans, leggings over your underwear.

That's what I was thinking about!

I don't try underwear on but there is no way that you are going to be able to tell if they fit and won't ride up if you are trying them on over the top of another pair of undies.

I can never really get the full effect of the fit of a bathing suit either trying it on over undies. LOL Luckily I don't have to try on bathing suits either. I go up one size from my pants and it always works.

You can't buy love but you can adopt it. Adopt, don't shop.

I have never tried underwear on before buying. However, I HAVE tried on swimsuits over underwear. Who could possibly buy a swimsuit without trying it on? It would be the same thing wouldn't it?
