Skin Colored Bump(s) on Face That Aren't Pimples--What Are They???

Started 1305496142.687 in Beauty Banter | Last reply 1307539921.58 by HighL

Hello :)

I have 2 skin colored bumps on my face (1 on forehead & 1 in chin area) that aren't pimples. They are not itchy/rash/etc or bothersome at all--have just have cropped up as I've gotten older. My derm does yearly skin checks and says they are normal. Do any of you have something similar? What are they???

Oh I'm so with you on this one! I have a lot of those, no worries my doc tells me, but geez they don't look that great. I have no solution for you either. Isn't getting older fun now. I'm scandinavian and it seems these skin bumps and skin tags are pretty common for us. Honestly...as if stuff going south and wrinkles aren't enough!!!

I am fairly sure they are skin tags. They can be removed very simply if you do not like seeing them. There are threads here about the subject, I believe there was one very recently. You can do a search here and I am sure you will find it.

I actually have both...skin colored bumps and skin tags. They are unfortunately two different things. Vermont Country Store sells something to for skin tags, but the bumps are another thing altogether. Fun huh.

I had many "bumps" on my skin and couldn't figure out what they were.. If I squeezed them, white would come out (I know gross but dont know how else to explain) but they would just come back. I discovered my skin was congested, purchased Mario Badesu drying cream and after about 3 weeks they were gone....not sure if this is what you are suffering from but I had alot of "bumps" that were not zits but just were there...they made me miserable because I started to get more and couldn't figure out what they were.

I think they are flesh colored moles.

I think if the bumps were skin tags the derm would have told her that and/or removed them. They will fall off eventually, but if, as I suspect, they are moles, they are probably permanent.

Thanks for the replies :)

They definitely aren't skin tags b/c they don't stick out a lot. They are more flat but slightly raised higher than the surrounding skin. I know they aren't pimples b/c I tried to squeeze/extract them thinking they were pimples at first and there's definitely nothing in there.

Ty77- I've never heard of clogged sweat ducts. I'll have to ask my doctor about that. How did your derm treat them?

TIA :)

Seems weird that your derm would say they are normal and just ignore them???!!??

I had a clogged sweat gland/oil gland on my (L) upper arm last year and the derm had me return and he did an incision and removed it. I knew this was not a mole because it had a large open pore ( im very small pored....lol) and I often tried to mash it and would sometimes get some white stuff out. Obviously, a removal like I had is not an option on your face.

I still vote for mole.

That's what I would have guessed as well.

It sounds like sebaceous hyperplasia and they can only be removed by your derm. I had some removed about 4 years ago. Once removed, they will not return. Retin A might help somewhat.

If you have a dermatologist, why don't you ask him/her? You should realize people on the forum can't see them- and some can be very helpful and they really you should realize they can pnly guess but I'd advise you to ask your doctor.jmo

Don't be an alarmist- there are plenty of things that do not require removal. She should ask her derm what they are and if she doesn't trust the answer then go to another professional, not ask people on the board that are just guessing.

Not being an alarmist whatsoever, just would want bumps removed...jmo of course

I was just at the derm and I have both the flat moles and clogged sweat glands/pores.he removed nothing and told me to use retin-a.If he removed them all with my history of scarring he said i would look like swiss cheese.I hate them and wanted everything removed but i guess the scars would be worse. He did say that microdermabrasion could help but i can't afford to do it.

Are you using Argan oil by any chance? I developed some small bumps when I started using Argan oil. I stopped and they never returned. Mine were under the skin though so may not be the same thing. OP's sound like milia to me which can just be zapped right off at the derm's office.

They could be moles. I have 2 flesh-colored ones on my forehead. This site explains what various bumps are:

I was using JM argan oil for some time and now stopped. The moles came with age but these clogged sweat pores I never had before. The derm said the retin-a should help with them.thanks for the info on the argan oil.

I have been using Argan oil and I have those exact bumps all over along and above my jawline. I will stop now and see what happens.

I also had bumps on my face from plucking hairs. I did figure out that Cortizone cream gets rid of those. Just a tip for anyone needing help in that area. I still have the bumps along my jawline. The Cortizone cream didn't cause them because I had them before I discovered that the C. cream gets rid of the plucked hair bumps.

They could be a number of things. In my case, it would be milia, although I've been able to avoid milia for some time now. Why not ask your derm what they are?

I have something similar, may be the same thing. They are flat, slightly raised, and ever so slightly a darker flesh color. Derm said they were not moles, and she froze off a few, I have few more for her to zap on the next visit. I suspect it is one of those aging things. They look different from the standard age spot although she froze one of those on my hand. As someone who has had a basal cell carcinoma removed I get concerned about every bump and discoloration. The next time you visit your derm ask for exact clarification and ask if s/he will freeze it off.

I had a new one on my back recently and family doc said it looked like a keratosis and don't be concerned unless it changes. I think "keratosis" is a pretty broad term for skin bump, there are different types of keratoses (plural). I had two removed from my forehead years ago. Two more on my face I keep at bay with Clinique Skin Tone Corrector and Bare Escentuals. This is the result of way too much tanning and sunburning as a kid. Doc said just watch them. These are not just from aging, they are from the sun.
