Best hairspray for chin/shoulder length fine, thin hair??

Started 1300186163.767 in Beauty Banter | Last reply 1300245918.263 by tawnyPa

I have been growing out my fine, thin, hair and currently have it layered between chin and shoulder lenghth. I wear it straight with lift on top that I get with a curling iron if I have time, or just the flat iron(want an Instyler bad!!). What hairspray will hold all day and not make it so stiff? I like it too move, but most sprays "fall out" as the days go on and the longer it gets, the harder it is to maintain lift in the crown. I do use a root lift. I currently use Paul Mitchell Extra Firm Extra Body, but it seems too stiff. Have also tried Redken 23 and Kenra 25(ok, but also "falls out" after a few hours and builds up). Help!!!

I have fairly short but very fine, thin hair. I swear by Redken 09 hairspray. It's ligher weight than most. It'll make your hair stiff if you put enough on but I use it lightly, then give it time to totally dry, then run my fingers through my hair to loosen it up.

Peace

I have used Nick Chavez's Volumizing Hair Spray for years and love it. I also like his Angel Wing's Hairspray. Both work well, hold nicely and aren't too stiff. Another favorite of mine is Shaper Plus. It holds in humidity which is especially nice in the spring when it rains often.

John Frieda Anti Frizz in the silver bottle is a nice aerosol.

L'Oreal Elnett-gold can, available in d/s and Target-can be brushed out, but has good hold.

I have very similar hair to yours and sounds like the style is also similar...I love Nexxus Comb Thru...I lift the top and spray before I style it....I sometimes put a hot roller on the crown while I am getting dressed....when I take it out I spray again before combing...it really holds great but isn't stiff or sticky.

If you just want cheapo, hurricane-proof hold and dont' care if it is stiff...just go for

RAVE #3. I also like Big Sexy as well but have found the Nexxus keeps what little volume I get into my hair longer.

Hurricane-proof so funny!!

I must admit my recommendation is based on using that hairspray once in a while, and spraying it from a "mile" away. If hairspray is a must-have item in your hair styling routine (it is not in mine) then definitely consider more professional ones.

Nick Chavez Amazon hair spray. But I really need spray to hold my fine, thin, shoulder length hair in a good style. I try others, including expensive high end hair salon types and always go back to his.

I don't believe in the concept of h*ll, but if I did I would think of it as filled with people who were cruel to animals.

Thanks for asking this question, m'gal!

My hair is as you describe yours, and I *do* have an Instyler (SO worth it!)

I'm letting my layers grow a bit because I got multilated my someone who uttered the word 'texturize.' {#emotions_dlg.scared} NEVER let anyone do that to you!

I was interested in the responses and like many, default to Nick Chavez. (WHERE HAS HE BEEN LATELY, Q??) I have the Angel Wings and for me its a bit too soft, but great for hair that moves. (maybe I don't use enough..) Typically I comb Joico heat protection mouse (tall tan can) through towel damp hair and use a round brush to lift and dry. Then I use the Instyler to shape and close the cuticles, then the spray. (one of Nick's)

Kindness first..

I have been using Living Proof hairspray and it seems to work for me. I have a layered cut right above shoulders and for me, this product and the thickening cream have been a lifesaver for me. take care tawny

the one and only tawny from 10/6/04 and a lot of lost posts!!
