Need Great Cream Blush for Mature Skin

Started 1298378808.74 in Beauty Banter | Last reply 1298694847.263 by tawnyPa

Bobbi Brown mentioned on Dr. Oz's show yesterday that older skin needs cream - not powder - blush.

But I find they don't last.

Anyone have a great one to recommend that does last?

I tried BeneTeint (?) and it's horrid. Just like a magic marker and it does NOT blend.

Mary Kay has some cream blushes out right now, also Avon makes a really good one called Be Blushed Cheek Color, and it is on sale right now for $5.99, and comes in some beautiful colors. Mary Kay currently only has two colors to choose from and is quite a bit more costly.

I am absolutely loving the blushable creme stick by NYC. I find it lasts very well through the day, especially if I use primer. And it's less than $4.00. I found it at Walmart.

Good luck in your search.

NARS Multiple is good and lasts forever - cost $38. A good drug store brand is Maybelline Dream Mouse - it was under $10. Both last through the day for me.

Hi

Lots of great cream blushes out there, i have become addicted to them as i mature!

Bobbi Brown line has some great pots with lots of color choices, also a great cream blush, (but really $$) is La Prairie. and my new current favorite the creme tints by Le metier de beaute.

I tried the Maybelline Dream Mousse but it never "set". Too greasy, IMHO, but maybe I used too much or ??

I'll try NARS. Thanks!

Bobbi Browns Pot rouge is nice. I always layer (go over it with a powder blush) my blush if I use a cream blush. It helps with the staying power.

Just thought of this. I don't know if this even exists in the market but you should use the same base for your make up. Meaning if your foundation is oil based so should you concealer and cream blush. If your foundation is water based the same applies. If you mix them they will not last and set well on the skin for any length of time.

I had to laugh when I read your post as I just posted this above. I am also looking for a nice cream blush that does last.

I love the Bobbi Brown Pot Rouge, they seem to last a long time for me, and they last forever in the pot too! I'm 56 and have dry skin. I use the Bobbi Tinted Moisturizer Balm, then cover-up concealer, then the cream rouge, then some light powder. Seems to last most of the day for me. In the summer, if it is high humidity, I will switch to a powder blush.

I have tried many, but am very pleased with Smashbox Creamy Cheek Color in "Captivate". I think I got it as part of a kit. It's easy to apply and looks very natural.

Try MAC's cream blushes. They are really good and stay put.

Tarte! I have used Natural Beauty for years now--it looks a dark berry in the stick but works on my fair skin with just a couple taps on my finger to get the right amount. I blend it right after putting on moisturizer/sunscreen and it lasts all day. This is a gel formula but I also have the anniversary color "10" which is a pink with a cream consistency. This also lasts all day for me. If you have access to a Sephora, I would go and try some of these recommendations.

If you do a search on Beauty Banter ( keyword cream blush ), you will pull up several topics pertaining to cream blush. I agree and disagree with Bobbi Brown about cream blush is better for mature skin. I use cream blush ( MAC's and its long wearing ), but also use powder blush on occasion. I prefer a cream blush for my dry skin, but skin in good shape can wear either...JMO.

mature, dry, sensitive, makeup optional skin. keep it healthy with NIA24, MD Forte, physical sunscreen and Fancl cleanser.

katz1, very good point. I hadn't thought about it that way, but it certainly makes sense.

I use Bobbi's Pot Rouge lightly as a "base" blush, then apply powder blush over it. It lasts all day on me.

I agree on using a cream blush first, then layering on a powder blush. Mally's Illuminating Blush Duo has a very sheer cream blush and a sheer powder blush in one compact. Since these two formulations were made to be worn together, it doesnt look heavy or overdone. You could also wear them seperately on their own, but i think the staying power of this blush system calls for using them together, although i have had no problem with lasting color when using them on their own. It is sold on its own with a dual ended brush, which was useless for me. I use a stipple brush for the cream part and a regular blush brush for the powder. It also comes in a couple of Mally's kits, like her PRO TIPS AND TRICKS & the ALL DAY GORGEOUS kit. But it seems the light one always sells out.

For those of you mentioning using a powder blush over a cream, does it look less dry than powder blush alone?

I have a few powder blushes I like color-wise but want a less dry look.

Wouldn't it be better to try the powder blush first and then the pot rouge and blend? That's the way I wear it. I use Bare Escentuals blush (fruitcocktail) and then the bobbi browns pot rouge.

I cant vouch for regular powder blushes over cream blushes, but the Mally one still looks dewey. I have tried regular cream blushes in the past and i have found them to have a thicker consistency and harder to blend onto skin OVER foundation without messing up the foundation. Mally's cream blush has a very sheer, light consistency, almost like a gel, but easier to blend. You could pat in on and blend it just with a patting motion, no rubbing or smearing. Although i use a stipple brush. I have never used a regular cream blush that didnt require rubbing in order to blend out. Also the Mally powder blush that goes over it is also very sheer in color and texture, does not look or feel powdery.

Of course Mary Kay & Avon have blushes but do they work for mature skin? I believe that was the question. I like to know too.

About a year or so ago, I noticed that when I applied powder blush it was gone about 20 minutes later. Literally, by the time I got on the bus to go to work, there was no colour on my cheeks. Then I read that cream blush stays longer on more mature skin and I started using it. My fave right now is Clinique's Blushwear Cream Stick. It lasts more than half the day. I may touch it up mid afternoon or so.
