Do you have to wash your face before using a clay mask treatment?

I recieved a clay mask treatment today and was wondering if I'm supposed to wash my face first if I'm going to wash it again after anyway. The jar doesn't mention washing first. Thanks.

I wash mine before doing a treatment. I would think it would work better not cutting through a layer of make up.

I do a light wash. I want the clay to reach my skin and not have anything between the mask and my skin. Don't know if it is necessary but I just can't do it without knowing I'm doing it on clean skin.

Yes, wash first with a gentle cleanser! You are only rinsing the mask off afterwards. I have a few masks and all are just treating the skin and pores not cleaning off oils and skin debris.

I also wash my face before using a mask, I just like any treatments I do...on a clean face.

If I'm doing a mask of any kind, I'll typically do a very light wash and rinse just to make sure I've got any makeup and surface dirt off the skin.

Thanks all! I figured I should, but I'm feeling really lazy tonight and I didn't put on makeup today so I just thought I'd see if it mattered. Going to wash my face and try out my new mask. :o)

I always wash first because most masks say to apply to a clean face.
