Can't find a suitable foundation...Am I the only one?

Started 1296350408.06 in Beauty Banter | Last reply 1296517140.2 by roxyrn

I am 42, take very good care of my skin, but it seems every foundation I try accentuates fine lines and makes me look OLD. Even the ones that say "does not aacentute line" of "smoothes fine lines". I just wasted $ on the new L'Oreal mousse one. Supposed to fill in lines and leave skin 'perfected'. yeah right. give me a break. ugh............

I've tried so many. I don't like Bare Essentials.. I have only used one liquid that I even remotely liked..a Smashbox one that I am pretty sure is no longer offered (I hate that!). I have been using Mally's concealer, a tinted sunscreen and a few sweeps of Raw Minerals. I wish I could find a foundation that gave me coverage and perfected my skin (not perfect, but you know what I mean...)

I am thinking about taking the time, going to Nordies and having a foundation selected and matched for me. Any suggestions on a brand? I like as natural as possible, no added fragrance, paraben free, etc...

help {#emotions_dlg.crying}

Thanks, beauties Kiss

What type of skin do you have and are you using a primer ?

I had to start experimenting with primers, and that helped a lot. And I stay with liquid and creamier foundations.

I have tried soooooooooooo many foundations and my absolute favorites are Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk & Lasting Silk. They are fabulous! Blendable, sheer to full coverage. Gives a beautiful airbrushed finish, does not change color throughout the day. It is definitely worth the price.

I've always used liquid foundation. I'm 68 and thanks to great genes and good skincare over the years - my skin looks good for my age.

I've been lucky. For years and years, I used Cover Girl and one day when the (small local) drugstore didn't have my shade, the girl at the cosmetic counter suggested Almay's Amazing Lasting line and then on to Almay's TLC when Amazing Lasting was discontined.

Great coverage, perfect color match and lasts all day.

Primer first (or not if you have smooth skin and small pores). But, also you may want to change over to a tinted moisturizer instead of using foundation if you only need light to medium coverage. I'm 48 and I switched over to Neutrogena Healthy Skin Enhancer last year and it's my new Holy Grail product!

I have light to medium skin and I use color #30 which is their light to neutral. The shades are forgiving, you don't have to apply a ton to get a really nice look, and it has tint, spf 20, retinol, and is oil-free.

Love it!

Luminous Silk not Luninous.

I have light to med, combo skin that is starting to lean toward dry except in the T zone, and I get an occasional breakout in the chin area.

I guess I should try to use primer. I have never found they are much good over sunscreen. Primer does go after sunscreen, right? I wonder if it interferes with the effectiveness of the SPF. I use a retinoid at night and always wear at least an SPF 30, sometimes higher.

I did buy a nice primer from Fresh. It's supposed to dry to a nice matte. I'll have to find it in my stash.

I was thinking about Neutrogena. Maybe I'll give it a shot. I would like to try Almay too. Geesh, this could get expensive {#emotions_dlg.scared}

I would love to try the Armani one but don't have an Armani counter anywhere near me. I could order from Sephora.

Thanks for your suggestions. I really appreciate it.

rasjaj, i think your idea about going to nordstoms, and letting them help you will a foundation, and primer, if they feel you need it. clinque has some very nice liquid makeup, bobbie brown, smashbox is there, just lots and lots. if you do not like one, move to the next brand. its just a waste, to keep buying them and not using, so going to nordstom sounds perfect. they will only be to happy to let you walk around the store in it, that way you can look under different lighting. make it a fun day, just for you.

I love Chanel's foundation...I'm 50 something with oily T zone. I'm allergic to many brands but this nicely moisturized foundation is great. Long lasting.

Try Lancome Teint Miracle. It's their newest and I love it. Gives great coverage but feels like nothing on the skin. Does not settle into fine lines and the color stays true all day.

Be sure you check out mygiftwithpurchase.com if you try it, so you can get a GWP also..more for your money :)

go to Nordstrom and ask several counters to make a sample for you, then you can try them and see which one you like. Most Norstroms have Armani too.

Bobbi Brown cream compact....it gives amazing coverage without feeling like you have something on your skin..... comes in moisturizing, which I use and regular

Moisturizing Cream Compact Foundation

This unique emollient compact formula provides all-day wear and all-day moisturization, as it instantly softens the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and delivers a soft, radiant finish. Formulated for normal to dry skin, this foundation is blended with ingredients that prevent dehydration such as Jojoba and Avocado Oils - both moisturize and condition skin. Provides medium to full coverage, and is a portable alternative to your liquid foundation and a more moisturizing alternative to traditional compact foundations.

Clarins...the best I have tried. I am 53.

50's, fair skin with pink undertones, freckles when young, dry to normal and a little sensitive. Dark brown straight hair, sometimes highlighted (very lightly)

My skin tends to be dry, and I love BB Luminous Moisturizing Foundation.

I purposely did not put on primer this morning to see if I could tell a difference. Oh my gosh, my foundation looks like cr*p. I can't wait to wash it off. I cannot believe the difference a primer makes! I've been using Hard Candy Sheer Envy primer and it's wonderful. For foundation, I switch between LM TM and Revlon Photoready mixed with some LG sunkissed illuminzer. That is what I wore today and it looks terrible w/o primer. Srsly, try a primer. I think that will help :)

why am I in this handbasket, and where am I going?

Chantacaille Future Skin works for me- the color blends in perfectly (Alabaster) and it feels very natural.
