Do you tip the Esthetician at the dermatologist office?

My dermatologist recommended I see the esthetician in his practice for a series of chemical peels, I was wondering if I should tip her.

Thank you

Hi gbt:

As a rule no. If the esty works as part of the practice they are probably an employee and I would said no tip. If there is a medi-spa as part of the derm practice, the esty may be an independent contactor and depending on the setting the answer may be yes or no. But again, as a rule no. If in doubt, just ask the medical receptionist when you schedule. I promise you will not be the first to ask. HTH

I totally disagree. I see mine in a Plastic Surgeons office, and I always tip. I know she really appreciates it! its not expected, but I always do.

At the dermatologist office I work for, tipping is not allowed in a medical facility. It's always a compliment if you ask first.

No, if they work in the dermatologist's office I would not tip, nor ask about tipping. If in a spa then it would be appropriate to tip.

Of course "she really appreciates it"! Who wouldn't? But a MD's office, I wouldn't. It cheapens the practice of medicine.
