Women over 50, Liquid or Mineral Foundation?

Started 1291318671.717 in Beauty Banter | Last reply 1291662230.197 by caligrl

I'm 53 years old and STILL battle oily skin. I use a mineral make-up (not BM) to help keep the oil at bay. But as I get older, the mineral make-up is not leaving my face with a "good finish". Is there anything else I can do or should I switch to an oil-free liquid foundation. If so, any recs? Thanks beauties!

Doris Dalton has a new foundation that leaves a nice finish on my skin. The item number is A212483. I have an oily t-zone and this leaves my skin nice and matte, but not dry looking.

I am in my 40's but know what you mean. I had used BE for several years and was perfectly happy but as I started to get a little older did not like what I was seeing with coverage or finish. I also have oily skin. About six months ago I started using Bobbi Brown Natural Finish foundation and have been very, very pleased.

I can't wear mineral makeup - it ages me drastically and emphasizes my pores.

Bon...which sig A line do you use. I've tried the stuff in the stick and it was too heavy for me.

I'm 58. The only mineral make-up I can wear that doesn't settle on me is Skinn cotton mineral make-up. I also really like Clinique's almost powder foundation. It is one of my favorites for convenience. I can put on a little undereye concealer and just swipe on the almost powder foundation for a really nice finish that's very natural looking but not cakey or too heavy.

I'm still using BE and it looks great - I have fair, very oily skin -- I also use a concealer brush and BE to cover blemishes (yes, I still break out and it's beyond annoying). I do exfoliate and deep moisturize weekly which really helps as well (Philosophy kit - the one with the citrus scrub and Clinique Moisture Base after) - it keeps my skin smooth - I also use a primer before I put on the BE mineral foundation - I'm using Philosophy The Supernatural currently. I've been using the mineral veil with the moisure beads in it as well - I think it helps during the dryer months.

I don't use any foundation. I'm 55 and found it just didn't look good on me. Sometimes I'll use a little bit of tinted moisturizer and then I spot conceal if necessary. Lauren Huttons face disc is good, has different shades of concealer plus other products. Simple and easy to use.

Be kind to one another.

I am 50, have large pores, a few small white scars, and am starting to get wrinkles near my eyes. I have tried every mineral make up out there, sometimes more than once, and with at least three different primers, because i like the way it covers my scars, but like others have said, it ages me drastically, makes my pores appear huge, and my skin dry, which it isn't.

I now wear the BB pancake make up very lightly, and nothing on my nose, but the lightest bit of powder. My skin tone may not be as even as I'd like, but at least I don't look like a freak.

From what I have seen mineral makeup ages you ...even if you are under 50. If you are poreless and no wrinkles it can be beautiful...but few of us have that kind of skin.

I tried it for several weeks, because I wanted so much to have it work for me. It looked fine in the house putting on my makeup..so out I would go. And then I'd catch myself in the daylight, full sun or those awful flourescent lights. It gave my skin an slight metallic look and every line looked deeper.

I would say if you are going to wear it you have to have a good amount of primer and wrinkle filler on to give you face a very "level" field to put on the makeup.

I guess it works for a lot of people (I wish it had worked for me). And again they were forced to make a matte version for a very good reason...all that mica in the original was not looking good on a percentage of people.

All I would suggest is be sure to check yourself out in the daylight to make your decision. As I said I like their other products a lot and wish this worked for me

I used BE for years and found now at 62 it made me look older and settled in the line. I ordered Tarte Amazonian clay and I love it. I use the sponge applicator and nothing settles in.
