One of the things my allergist recommended was an air purifier in my bedroom. Can anyone recommend a good one thats easy to clean, not too loud or expensive??

Thanks so much.

Hi Emmommy,

here are my experiences with air filters over the last 15 years: you get what you pay for. Started out with HEPA filter machines from Honeywell etc.( $100 - $350), slowly graduated to serious equipment ($700 and up) by IQAir, and nevr looked back. These things are incredible. It is suggested, that you run them on high while you are out, then turn them down, when you are in the room. This way you have really clean air, while you are in the room with not too much noise. Mine is on 24/7. A good place to get info and shop is Allergy Buyers Club. They will recommend products based on issues and room size. Good Luck ! Sylvia

I agree with Katrin B. I recommend that you look at the Allergy Buyers Club web site. I also recommend that you get one that will always have available filters that can be replaced (some filters are difficult if not impossible to find when you want to replace them) or filters that you can clean without replacing them.

I looked at the brand my allergist used, and thought if it was what the allergist would use that that was a high recommendation. That was how I decided the brand to purchase.

I have one by Honeywell and I like it. It's about 4 yrs old and I've only had to change the prefilters. It uses a universal pre filter, easy to find. It does make a "white noise" sound, but I like that; it drowns out any noise from outside.

Will check out Allergy Buyers Club. I'm allergic to dust and dogs (and I have two doggies) :)

I've had great luck with Oreck. I have 3 of them. Do the job and easy to clean. I subscribe to Consumer Reports and I know they don't rate them particularly "high" but I've been very happy... HTH!

I got my BlueAir from Allergy Buyers Club. There is a world of difference between it and the Hunter HEPA I had used beforehand. Unfortunately, to get a serious piece of equipment, you do have to pay more. Good luck in your search!
