Chumlee on Pawn Stars

Started 1336431968.217 in Among Friends | Last reply 1338053880.23 by Bungo

Hi, y'all. Do you watch Pawn Stars? I'm trying to figure out where Chumlee fits in. At the beginning of the show, Rick introduces himself, his dad (the Old Man), and his son (forget his name at the moment). No mention at all of Chumlee, yet he has as big a presence as the others on the show. Is he a relative? A charity case? Just wondering. . . .

According to the Pawn Stars website, Chumlee is the childhood friend of Corey, the son. The website is pretty cool-

Hmmm. If he's the childhood friend of Corey, he's about the same age? Seems younger in many ways, though.

I don't think he's as out of it or ignorant as he acts. He's smarter than he lets on, I think. When the three of them (no old man) were on Millionaire recently, Chumlee had some good answers.

I like Chumlee...I like him more than Big Hoss.

Pawn Stars is my favorite new program. I find it very interesting and entertaining as well. I would love to work in a store like that, behind the counters, trying to sell the merchandise and learning the history of various items up for sale.

Rick has such a great personality. I didn't like him at first, but the more I watch the show, the more I like him. I get a kick out of the grandfather (Rick's father). I bet he is filled with interesting stories and information.

The son doesn't quite have the personality his Dad has, and he's not such a stubborn negotiator either. The other day the question of the day was, what did Chumlee do before he got the job with Pawn Stars, and the answer was that he worked in a sandwich shop.

I wish I could get a job in a large Pawn shop somewhere, but I am nowhere near Las Vegas.

I go to Vegas quite a bit, so I want to check it out sometime.

I read that the stars are never in the shop, only for filming.

Chumlee is really very intelligent, it's an act for the show.

This is a favorite show of mine. Love them all! I love learning about the items brought into the shop too.

I love Pawn Stars, and Pickers too. There's plenty of scripted dialogue on Pawn Stars, with Chumlee taking on the role of Dumbo.

Corey and Chumlee could have a spinoff.

When we were in Vegas in October we went to the Pawn store. This shop is a shoebox. Somehow they make the store seem much larger than it really is. It seriously is very small and their prices are ridiculously high. I was thinking of getting a piece of jewelry so I could say I got it there, every piece was 1000+ At the end of the store is nothing but chumlee tshirts and stuff like that. I was disappointed. It was packed the days I went (went 2 times) and there was a guard at the door. I Like this show but I enjoy Hardcore Pawn better

I love Pawn Stars! I love Chumbley but I think that Cory can be right much of a smart alek and I don't like that. I just don't enjoy that trait in a buisness setting.

I also love Pickers, I have just started watching Storage Wars and really like it too!

I would love to visit. I am dissapointed to know that it is so small, it looks very big on TV.

I thought this show was interesting when it began..ie: seeing the appraisals. Then I began to realize what cheats these guys are. They don't have 'poker faces'. They buy for very little, sell for too much... for me, they're the definition of 'bottom feeders'. At least American Pickers put a lot of effort into finding things and I think they buy/sell fairly.

chumlee seems to be the punching bag; not very smart but they continually take advantage of him and make him the butt of all their jokes.I hate to see anyone treated like that.

I don't watch this show anymore because the disrespect that they show the Old Man is appalling; they swear at him and make fun of him. If my son ever talked to me like I would disown him!

I agree that they cheat people bigtime. I have to think that most of this show is fake...no way people are expecting 5K for an antique gun and then gleefully walk out with 50 bucks and say they are happy with the money!

LOVE Pickers! The guys seem to genuinely love what they do and I enjoy what they find as well as the eccentric lineup they encounter each week.

Know what? They're family and love and cover each other. Trust me Chum Love runs wild. He's honest and open. He loves his family and expects the bumps in the road. It's a show. Don't believe all you see as far as how who treats whom.

We also went there. It was a let down. Very crowded. I think that it's scripted as well. Doesn't seem all that crowded when someone is bringing in their items for appraisal. For the sake of buying something, I bought 2 refrigerator magnets, to my surprise when they rang up the sale they were $16.00 ($8.00 each). It was interesting to see it and there were items on display that had been on the show. The only person of interest there at the time was Antoine, the security guard. Interesting fact, the tatoo parlor next door is owned by Rick's brother.

I always enjoyed the show but with my cable change I do not get this channel so it is nice to see a post.

Read Rick's book,"License to Pawn". You will get a different view point of all the stars, including the "old man".

Braylinn, you are right. It is an act.

I may never pass this way again.
