Let it Grow, Let it Grow, Let it Grow

Thank you for the many compliments you have given me regarding my hair.  I am asked constantly what products I use, how long it took for it to grow and "Is it really all your hair?"  I hope this blog helps to answer some of those questions.  In addition, I created this little video to explain the way I achieve the beach wave look.

Let it Grow, Let it Grow, Let it Grow!

I made my transition back to my natural hair about 6 years ago with Chaz's encouragement.  I did the big chop as you can see by my profile picture.

I have been using Wen (Sweet Almond Mint, Fig and Six Thirteen) to cleanse my hair and as a leave in conditioner.  Doing the big chop is not for everyone.  My daughter, Lauren is making the transition slowly by letting her hair grow out, keeping the ends clipped and avoiding heat styling.

I have learned during this process you first have to embrace your hair's natural texture.  Respect Mother Nature.  If it is hot, humid, raining or if I have plans to work out or play tennis, I don't try to straighten my hair.  There were times when I was so frustrated with my hair that I considered going back to relaxing.  You have to persevere through the tough times.  I wore a wig often on the air on days when I just couldn't deal with my hair.  (And I am not opposed to wearing one now just to have fun and for more variety).

My Wen routine is pretty simple:

  • I use 3 pumps of the gallon size Cleansing Conditioner (that is about 3 palms full), one in the crown, one mid shaft and one on the ends.

  • Work it through, really clean the scalp, (remember it will not lather).

  • Rinse and repeat.  Comb through with a wide tooth comb, then rinse again.

  • Towel dry the hair and add an additional pump as a leave in.

  • If I am wearing a ponytail I also add Wen oil.  Use 2 -3 droppers full, work it into the scalp and through the length of your hair.

I have put together a selection of my favorite cosmetics and skin-care solutions to help complement your skin tone. The search is over click here:  Brown Beauty.  I hope this helps answer some of your questions.  It really is fairly simple, you just have to be patient.  Good luck on your journey to natural hair.
